A/N: I am going to be honest, I have no idea how lore works in DND and in Baldur's Gate 3, but we're going to work with it. I fell down the hole that is Karlach because some people I follow on Twitter were posting about her and I tried not to fall in love with her. But I started watching videos of her and fell in love with not only her design, but her story and her personality. And now I am simping for two tall, buff ladies with an axe. This is what I get.
But anyway, I am going to try my best to keep with the lore and I apologize in advance if I get some details wrong. But mostly some of the details are going to be made up. I am going to try to bring in details from the game, but I think most of this story is an attempt to focus on building a relationship between the reader and Karlach.
Hope you all enjoy!
"Watch it, Y/N," someone sneered at me.
"S-Sorry," I whispered as I was cleaning up the mess I had made.
While I was doing that, the other devils and imps that were down here were not paying any attention. One even stepped right on my tail to where my entire upper body shot upwards and I let out a little screech, covering my mouth instantly as tears filled my eyes from the pain. Squeezing my eyes shut, I sat there for a moment while the pain started to subside. Quickly picking everything up, I stood up and rushed over to where I needed to be. Stepping inside the war room within Zariel's palace, I set the box of things down by her desk.
"Over here, Y/N," Zariel beckoned me.
Picking up the box, I walked towards her and set it down.
"Thank you," she said. "Can you go make sure my champion is going to be here on time? I don't want to go over tactics without her."
"Yes, master," I said and walked out of the war room.
Heading to the other side of the palace, I entered a long hallway with doors lining each side. One could easily get lost in here if they didn't know where they were going and which door they were looking for. Reaching the door I was looking for, I raised my hand, knocking on the wood. I didn't hear anything behind the door, so I knocked once more.
"Fuck," I heard the champion groan.
I was never allowed to address her as her name, just Champion or the Demonsbane. Zariel was the only one to address her by her actual name. I was just a mere slave after all. Although, Zariel doesn't like that word. More of a servant. But it was actually a slave, just without the cruel punishment, at times.
The door opened up and I was met with the giant tiefling as she easily towered over me. She was wearing her normal battle leathers, which were just leather straps connected together by gold hoops. I was surprised they didn't fall off with how tattered they were becoming. Her horns were probably the most unique feature about her, other than her black and red hair. Although the Champion and I have something in common: our horns have engravings on them.
"Yeah?" she asked.
"Zariel is summoning you to the war room."
"Fuck," she groaned once more. "I'll be there."
I bowed to the Champion and headed back towards the war room to inform Zariel. Reaching the war room, I knocked on the door before entering inside.
"What is it?" Zariel asked, some hint of annoyance in her voice.
"The Champion is on her way," I said, bowing slightly.
"Thank you. Please stand by. Once the meeting is over, I am going to ask you assist the Champion with whatever needs she must have. Once they are fulfilled, you are to report back to me."
"Yes, master," I said and walked over to the far left corner of the room, standing there, awaiting her command.
"And you are to not talk to the Champion. She is very busy and does not need to be distracted."
"Yes, master."
The door opened up a while after I came in. The Champion walked in with her axe attached to her back and in the normal leathers she wore when I came to get her.
"Seriously?" Zariel asked. "You can't wear what I gave you?"
"These are more comfortable," the Champion said.
Zariel sighed, "Fine. I guess you do need to have some comfort with what you're going to do today. The demons have gotten out of hand as they are starting to ascend from Minauros. The numbers on our side are running thin and are unable to advance forward. We're going to need you to descend down there and take care of things so that our side can win this next battle. You are going to be stationed there until the results are something we can work with. Is that understood, my Champion?"
"Yes, Zariel," the Champion said, bowing her head slightly.
"Now, before you head out, Y/N will be assisting you with getting everything ready."
The Champion turned towards me as I walked up to her.
"She is able to do any job. Don't be afraid to make her work for you. She is the best of the best."
The Champion just nodded and we were excused from the war room. I followed her as she headed back to her quarters to find what she needed to get ready for her mission to Minauros.
"So, Y/N," the Champion began. "How did you end up with Zariel?"
"My master informed me that I am unable to speak with you."
"That's a shame isn't it, because I don't give a damn what Zariel thinks."
"She said it will distract you."
"What will distract me, is talking. It will fill in this awkward silence."
"I must obey my master's wishes."
"Alright fine," she sighed, taking her axe from behind her back and setting it down. "Be that way."
"I am simply here to assist you."
"You can assist me, by bringing that bag over here."
Walking over to where the bag was, I grabbed it and handed it to her. Throughout the time we had, the only conversation we had was mostly her directing me where to go, what to grab, and just her small commentary of how Zariel was nothing but a bitch for using her and me. For using other tieflings and other devils to win this war. I just stood and listened, trying to focus on my job and nothing else. One last thing she needed was a sword she carried along with her axe. Grabbing it from where it was mounted on the wall, she threw the bag over her shoulder and grabbed her axe. I got the pleasure of carrying the sword with where she needed to be. Reaching the area to descend, she took the sword from my arms. Turning to face me, she gave me a sad smile.
"You know, Y/N," she said. "You have a voice. A beautiful one at that. I hope I get to hear it more when I get back."
"Safe travels, Champion."
"Karlach," she said before disappearing.
