Blinking my eyes open, I took in a deep breath, relaxing as I listened to the sounds of the birds outside. Finding the inn's ceiling above me, a small smile crept on my face before I closed my eyes. Then, realization settled in. My eyes ripped open and I sat up, breathing heavily. Placing my hand over my chest, I felt the pounding of a heart inside there. But, I had given my heart to Karlach to ensure she lived. Did she--?

Slowly turning, Karlach sat on the end of the bed beside me. A wide, but soft smile was on her face as she stood up, sitting down on the side of the bed I was on. She reached over and placed her hand on my cheek, caressing the soft skin that contrasted with the rough pads of her hands.

"Karlach?"

"Y/N."

"D-Did you get your heart back?"

"I did."

"I-Is it inside me?"

She nodded her head.

"W-Why didn't you just put it back inside you?"

"It's like what you said on the pier: it's poetic. Besides, I have your heart and you have mine. Just make sure you treat it well."

Tears slid down my face as I pulled her into a hug. It was awkward, since the position wasn't comfortable. She reached over, grabbed me by my waist, and lifted me up. She set me down on her lap and held me close to her. I pressed my forehead against hers, taking in the fact that I could finally have her. Finally be with her for years to come until death came to us naturally. Nothing was going to keep me from her.

Leaning towards her, I was hesitant at first, but she was ready. She placed her lips against mine. They were warm and soft, like how she was at times. My arms wrapped around her neck and dug into her hair. Hers wrapped around my waist and pulled me close to her, closer than we ever before. Pulling away, I wanted more. I wanted her. I placed my hands on her cheeks and pulled her back in for another, this time, with more heat. I didn't hesitate to slip my tongue past her lips, feeling her fangs graze underneath. Gods this was intoxicating. Like I was tasting the finest wine in all of Faerun. How her lips melded against mine, conforming to whatever I wanted from her. Placing my hands on her shoulders, I pushed her down to the bed, laying on top of her.

My tail dipped down between my legs and found hers, the tips of our tails getting entangled with one another's like how it did whenever we first started our journey together. Whenever she was still too hot to touch, but her tail wasn't. Just like how hand holding signified something to couples, our tails coming together meant all the more to us. Needing to breathe, I pulled away and found Karlach, dazed underneath me as her eyes looked hungry. The one thing I was going to miss about her having that engine was her glowing chest and eyes and how they turned blue. It was only once, but it was more than enough to get me to miss it.

"Wow," she whispered, a smirk appearing.

"I guess you're pent up from being unable to touch people," I said.

"You have no idea."

I chuckled and rested my head on top of her chest, listening to the beating heart that thrummed to life in her chest. It was odd going to know the fact that her heart was in my chest and mine was in hers. But after a while, it'll be like nothing happened.

"I just want to be with you now."

"Nothing is going to stop us from being together. But the others do want to see you."

"I'm sure they do. But we can make them wait until dinner."

She chuckled, "I get to have you all to myself then?"
