"Karlach?"

Zariel was grinding her teeth together as I stood in front of her, my tail flicking back and forth. My arms were crossed over my chest and a scowl was on my face as I was staring at her. Maybe that was the reason she was sneering at me, or maybe it was the fact that she finally knew what happened about Y/N.

"Yes, Zariel?"

"Y/N," she said.

"What about her?"

"She didn't die, did she?"

"Took you this long to figure that out?"

"I had other matters in mind to even think about that lowlife of a tiefling!"

"Lowlife of a tiefling?" I asked, unfolding my arms and putting them to my sides and taking a step towards Zariel. "Lowlife of a tiefling?!"

"She was a lowlife. Nothing but a slave to me and her parents were slaves as well. She was supposed to pay off a debt that they couldn't."

"And what were you going to do? Send her off to her death because even you knew that they were walking to their deaths. You sent so many devils to their graves because not only did they lack the experience to fight, but they were basically surrounded by their entire army! You were really going to send Y/N to her death thinking she'd miraculously get out of there alive!"

"She is mine."

"She is not yours! She is not anyone's! Don't imprint yourself onto her as you did to me," I snarled.

"I already have, but she doesn't show it."

"Probably because those ragged clothes are the only clothes she has ever had since you took her."

"That does not concern you."

"It most certainly does concern me."

"Why does she concern you? She is nothing but a slave."

"But she once had a life before you took it away from her. She was living a normal life until you came in and took her parents, making her run and leave them, only for her to be taken by you and her parents were killed."

"First of all, how do you know this?"

"You should keep an eye on your records more. But that's not the point. You took having a normal life from her and you treated her terribly and even more, the reason why it concerns me is because you made her stand there while you ripped my heart out and replaced it with this fucking engine inside of me!" I snarled, fire starting to erupt around me.

"You didn't even tell her what you were doing and you made her help you against her will! If she had that kind of will power, she would have stopped you! She would have questioned what in the hells you were doing, but she didn't because you took that kind of will power away from her! You took everything away from her! Like how you took everything away from me!"

Zariel and I stared down one another. My jaw was clenched tightly together and my fangs were bared at her. I could feel the engine starting to get hotter and hotter by the second as my rage was not going to subside anytime soon.

"And it was all because I trusted someone with my life and look how that ended up! I did one slip up. One! And that cost us one part of the war and you had to put this fucking thing in my chest! Fuck it all, Zariel! Fuck you!"

"Is that anyway you speak to your superior?"

"My superior? My superior? If anything, you're nothing but superior to me. I don't have to fight for you, but I fucking have to because I was sold to you. I have to fucking fight for you because if I don't, you could easily kill me."

"Then know your place, Karlach."

"'Know my place?' Know my fucking place? Fuck no," I spat before walking off, leaving Zariel as I had better things to do.

It had been five months since I freed Y/N, now it was time for me to free myself. I don't know how I was going to do it, but I was determined to get out of here. Unfortunately, the devils that had helped me grant Y/N her freedom were killed by Zariel and that was how she knew about me pushing Y/N through a portal. I couldn't use the same methods as I did for Y/N, as that devil who made the portal in the first place was killed in that battle.

As I was walking the battlefield, I noticed there was a ship flying nearby. It landed and someone walked off of it. Turning to face the camp, Zariel was out of sight. Even if she was out of my line of sight, that didn't mean I wasn't out of hers. Crouching low to the ground, I hid behind what I could and slowly made it to the ship. Once the coast was clear, I climbed aboard and hid myself. Sitting there for what felt like forever, the ship started to move once more and it got farther and farther away from where I just was. Letting out a sigh, I leaned back against the wall and took in a deep breath. I was finally getting away from Zariel, but what does that mean with my engine? I guess only time will tell what will happen to. Closing my eyes, I fell asleep until the ship started to whip around, waking me up.

Not daring to move from the hiding place I was in, I heard screams as people were trying to run and fight whatever was going on. Still not daring to move, I watched as people ran past where I was, not even thinking to look at me. Going after them was this thing that looked like it was a squid. I was in deep trouble now if I didn't move. But as the ship started to plummet towards the ground, I fell from where I was hiding and the squid creature found me. Making its way towards me, the tentacles wrapped around my neck, raising me in the air. I couldn't even fight back as my axe was on the ground far from reach. The last thing I remember was blacking out.
