Moonlight Vampires

A new life

As the meeting ended, everyone got back to their business. Jimin left right away, followed by Hoseok. I was thinking of going back to my room for the moment, so I could process all the information. I was walking towards the door when Namjoon came to me.

"Were you going back to your room?"

He startled me a little.

"Um yes I was."

"Would you allow me to accompany you?"

I had noticed how polite he was during the meeting already but I thought it was because he addressed Seokjin. It seems like he was just polite with everyone.

"Actually, that would be kind. The manor is so big, I'm afraid I won't find my way back to my room."

"Indeed, this is why I offered you my help."

He opened the door and made a sign for me to follow him. We walked along corridors and climbed several flights of stairs. I'm glad I accepted his help. I would have been lost for sure otherwise. We stopped in front of my room and he led me inside. I turned to face him. He was looking at me with a very faint smile.

"Thank you for taking me back here."

"My pleasure."

He was still looking at me with the same expression on his face. Is he waiting for something? I started to feel a bit awkward.

"D-do you want to tell me something?"

He seemed surprised for a second and then rubbed the back of his neck.

"I apologise for creating an awkward situation. I just wonder what you're thinking. You must feel quite shaken by all this. I just wished to ask you how you feel..."

"Oh... Well, thank you for caring."

Namjoon was definitely the kindest among them all for now. He was the one who told me I wouldn't get hurt during the meeting and now he even cared about what I felt about it all? I was really surprised, this was certainly not what I would have expected from a vampire. But he truly seems to care so I guess I can open up to him a little.

"I feel... To be honest, I don't really know anymore. The whole situation seems unreal, and yet it is not. I'm still very confused about the reason of my stay. But I guess I'm managing for now."

"Yes I understand. You can count on me to make sure that your stay unravels under the best conditions."

"Um thank you"

He was very kind but a bit too formal perhaps? I didn't feel much at ease, but at least I was not scared of him.

"It's only natural to welcome a guest as such" he continued.

"I don't think I've received the best welcome though"

"Right, I did not mean to remind you bad memories. However, from now on, you'll be treated with due respect"

The more I talked to him, the more I felt like he did not really know how to talk to me or how to start a conversation with me. Was it because I was a girl? Or wait, actually, he was talking like a kind of guard! Does it mean that he was only doing his duty which apparently was to make sure I was alright from now on? In this case, he did not really care in fact, it was just his duty... Why do I feel a bit... disappointed?

"Have I said something wrong?"

"What? No not at all"

"Then why did your expression suddenly change? If there is anything I can do-"
