Corai Destiny Chamberlain
"Coco"

"Coco, it's time to get up." My uncle, Calvin spoke in his deep masculine voice, peeping into my bedroom.

"I'm coming, give me 30." I sighed, throwing my throw blanket off of my body.

I sat on the side of the bed for a little minute, slipping on my slippers before going down the hall into bathroom that I shared with my cousin, Caia.

Me and Caia have a rocky relationship, we were inseparable when we were younger and somewhat in elementary/middle school.

But when high school hit my life changed, my once happy family fell apart when my mother left me and my father for his best friend, now they're getting married, whereas my father got deeper into the streets and got himself locked up in federal prison.

She became distant and her friends started bullying me, she joined in on the 'fun' and made sure my life at school was a living hell just as my home life was, but I've grown to accept that everyone who is family aren't really your family and will quickly change up on you when given a better opportunity.

Once in the bathroom, I did my usual morning ritual of positive affirmations, brushed my teeth, and did my skin care routine.

I laid my outfit out last night after my shower, so I had time to do my makeup and hair.

After Church

"this lightning is everything! let me get this picture of you." Coco's aunt, Yolanda stopped in her tracks, she snapped the photo sending it to her.

"oh snap, i need to hire you as my photographer TT!" I complimented her skills.

"awe thank you baby, but that's more of your uncles thing." she laughs, pulling the young woman into a side hug as they walked to their car.

"um, where is Caia?" Coco chewed the inside of her cheek, she did this when she'd get nervous.

"i have no idea. She probably stayed with her best friend." Yolanda tried her best to hide her disappointment of her only daughter not showing up to church with the family, like any other Sunday, but Coco seen it.

"Aye, ma. Me and the guys are bout to go handle some. I'ma meet yall back at the house." Calvin Jr spoke walking toward the two women.

"Alright, be safe and be careful June. You know how they are out here." she spoke in a whisper, discreetly so no one from the church could hear.
