tw for a mentioned panic attack

"I can't believe you made me do that," Enid hissed, cheeks flaring red. She hadn't felt this embarrassed in a long time.

"This is to keep you safe," Wednesday said with absolutely no remorse for forcing Enid to use the bathroom while they were handcuffed together.

"Oh I'm sorry," Enid barked out sarcastically. "I wasn't aware that the toilet might swallow me up or the shower curtains might try to strangle me." As soon as Enid said the last part, a distant niggling feeling tickled the back of her mind. As if that had happened. She couldn't remember why or when it would have.

"Enid," Wednesday stated, nostrils flaring. "This curse is serious or did you forget that there's already been several attempts on your life? Would you like to be swallowed up a toilet? Or strangled by curtains? Those would be very stupid ways to die."

Wednesday was upset. Enid hadn't meant to upset her. "....sorry," she mumbled. "It's just....it's a lot. I don't know how to process this."

"For one, not throwing a tantrum would help," Wednesday said sharply. "And for two, helping me finish my research would also be helpful."

Enid nodded her head, dutifully allowing Wednesday to drag her back to the library where they stayed put until the sky outside had turned ink black. Enid was falling asleep over the book before Wednesday finally closed the last book.

"Eldritch Beings," she announced, jerking Enid awake.

"What?" Enid asked, rubbing the sleep from her eyes with her free hand. She was starved but didn't dare ask for food until Wednesday was done. Eating could wait, research could not.

"Eldritch Beings," Wednesday repeated. "Things of immense power, unstoppable power, that can do what they please. I think maybe one is affecting you." Wednesday swallowed thickly. She looked....unnerved, which wasn't an expression Enid had ever wanted to see on her stoic friend's face.

"They're real?" Enid's stomach sank and she felt like she was going to be sick. A light sheen of sweat began covering the inside of her palms. Something that horrible was afflicting Enid? Why? And How?

"Yes," Wednesday said, slipping out a thin book that had been hidden inside the covers of a thicker book. "I found this by accident. But it's a book detailing the Addams family curse."

"Is it the family curse affecting me?" Enid gasped out. "Am I in danger because I'm not an Addams?"

"No," Wednesday snapped out, and she looked upset. But why? "This curse affects my family, and my blood line only. This book is valuable. Why was it hidden within another? Was it because it could not be destroyed nor removed from the property so it could only hidden to deter us? Did my family try to hide this from me?" She tapped the book to her bottom lip, deep in thought. "They wouldn't. This is something we'd take as a point of pride. Which begs the question: why was it hidden and why don't I know anything about Eldritch Beings? Why don't I remember?" she hissed out in fearful frustration.

Enid leaned in, using her shackled hand to brush her fingers comfortingly against Wednesday's hand. "Wednesday?" she asked, eyes wide and imploring. She could see minute trembles racking Wednesday's shoulders before Wednesday silenced them, lifting her head up and bravely facing Enid.

"Enid, I don't mean to frighten you," Wednesday began slowly. "But I think something's very wrong. With all of us."

Enid had never seen Wednesday distraught like this. Normally, Enid was the emotional one and Wednesday took everything in stride, even reveling in the chaos that abounded from her actions. This wasn't one of those times.
