A weekend later Oscar and Nolan were playing checkers. "I guess you weren't exaggerating," Oscar grinned.
"I told you I was a pro at checkers."
"Yeah, and that's why next time we're playing chess," Oscar shook his head and Nolan laughed.
"You have a nice laugh," Oscar noted.
"Thanks," Nolan blushed.
"Are you hungry?" Oscar asked.
"A little."
"I could bake a pumpkin pie."
"Pumpkin pie?"
"Yes."
Oscar and Nolan baked and talked about their family. "My parents never accepted my being gay," Oscar told Nolan.
"Neither have mine. Trisha was my only family."
"Same with me and my friends, Kevin and Tiffany."
"May I ask if you talked to your parents?" Nolan asked.
"I haven't in a while. What about you?"
"Same with me."
"So, Oscar, have you always wanted to be a designer?"
"No, I wanted to be a baker, but I love what I do now. "
"You're an advocate, right?"
Nolan nodded. "That's right. I've been doing it for two years now. It takes a toll on you sometimes, but I love what I do."
Once the pie was done, Oscar served it.
"Oh, Trisha would love your pie."
Oscar chuckled. "Glad to know that."
They ate the pie, It was getting late, so Oscar told him he could stay the night and sleep on the sofa if he wanted to and Nolan did just that.
