Chapter 31

Oscar came home took Piper for a walk and called Nolan.

"I should be home soon. I have to help a friend before I get home."

"Well, hurry home, handsome. I miss you."

Nolan chuckled. "I miss you too," Nolan hung up.

Meanwhile, Nolan was helping Clearance. "You didn't tell him you were with me?"

"I didn't want him to get the wrong idea."

"Don't you think he'd still get the wrong idea by lying to him?"

Nolan shook his head. "I didn't lie to him, though. We are friends."

"I don't like this sneaking around. It makes me feel like we're cheating even though I know we're not. Why did you come here, Nolan? You told me you were pleased with Oscar."

"I am."

"But..?"

Nolan sighed. "I don't know how to explain this, but I'm afraid if I say this out loud, I'll become the jerk."

"Ah. I think I know where this is going?"

"You do?"

"You feel that ever since you and Oscar got engaged, things have changed and now you're not sure you want to marry him."

"I want to marry him."

"Nolan, who are you trying to convince? Me or yourself?"

"I should go. Thanks for the talk."

"Anytime. You know how to get a hold of me if you need anything." Nolan nodded and waved goodbye to his ex.

Nolan arrived home and put his phone down on the table.

"I'm going to cook dinner," Oscar kissed Nolan.

"Do you need any help?"

"Nope. You just sit there and let me cook."

"I'm going to take a shower," Nolan kissed Oscar.

Nolan's phone beeped and Oscar picked it up.

Clearance: Have you talked to Oscar yet? The longer you wait, the harder it will be when you eventually tell him the truth.

Oscar could feel his heart leaping out of his chest. He sent a text to Tiffany and Kevin.

He was going to make dinner and act like nothing happened and then call his friends.

After they ate and Nolan went to bed after taking Piper for her last out, Oscar called his friends.

"I don't know, O. Nolan doesn't seem like the type of guy to cheat," Kevin said trying to cheer up his friend.

"I agree. I think it's innocent. Maybe you should talk to Nolan before jumping to conclusions."

"I guess you both are right."

"Jumping to conclusions about what?" Nolan asked, startling Oscar. Oscar told his friends he'd call them back.

"Is there something you want to tell me, Nolan?"
