Win can clearly hear the cacophonous of his heartbeat in his ears. He is beyond nervous for his first day of work today. He hoists the strap of his leather briefcase bag over his shoulder and gets out of his bedroom. His phone beeps, signaling a message just came in as he's walking down the stairs. It's a message from Bright.
Bright
Hi, cute guy. All the best for your first day of work today. You're going to be great! ❤️
The man's lips curve into a smile, instantly typing a reply to the CEO.
Win
Thank you. I'll see you at lunch? 👉🏻👈🏻
Bright
As promised. See you xx
Win keeps his phone back into his pocket and runs to the kitchen. His mother is baking some cookies right now. It is still early, but she's already up and running. The chemotherapy is working. The cancer cells inside her body are almost defeated. A little more, and she'll be free of it. "Good morning, my beautiful mother!"
May Opas-Iamkajorn turns away from the oven and grins. "Good morning, my handsome son!" Both mother and son titter in amusement. "I finished baking a batch of cookies already. Bring them to your office na. You can share them with your new friends," she tells.
The woman opens the kitchen cabinet to find a Tupperware container. Win watches her place a number of cookies inside the container and covers the lid afterwards. "Ma, you're too nice for this world," Win mumbles as he sits down at the kitchen isle.
"Are you sure, honey? A foul-mouthed woman like me?" She chuckles, heading over to her son. She pours two cups of tea for both of them.
Win hums as a response. "You're not a foul-mouthed person, ma. You just spout some truths to others," he shrugs and grabs one cookie on the plate in front of him. He takes a bite and moans at the chocolatey taste. It is not too sweet, that's why he always likes the cookies that his mother makes.
"Jaa," she grins, ruffling Win's hair. "Work well, baby. Don't pressure yourself too much. Call me if you feel like crying," she adds nonchalantly.
"Ma!" Win groans and May throws her head back, laughing at him. "I'm not a baby," he huffs.
"But you'll always be my baby. Do you know that?" May pinches his cheek, pulling on it afterwards.
"I know," Win pulls the woman closer to him and hugs her tightly. "I love you. It is because of your blessing I got the job," he sighs happily.
"You're such a sap. You definitely learnt this from your pa, didn't you? You need to work on it more. Bright is probably boring of you now," May smirks wickedly and sits down next to Win.
"Ma!" Win is a little offended by her last statement.
"Kidding! I mean, do you see him? He's charming," May teases her son.
"Yeah, yeah. You're right," Win rolls his eyes at her. "I have to go now, ma. Or else I'll be late. Call me if you need anything. Stay close to your phone. Understand?" He reminds her.
May nods like a little kid. "Okay, I understand, Mr. Architect. Don't forget the cookies over there!" She points at the container placed on the kitchen counter. Win rushes to grab it and kisses his mother on her cheek before walking out of the house.
Fifteen minutes later, Win finds himself in front of the same door that he stood at last Monday, waiting to be buzzed in. Phi Margie allows the access, and he enters the office. Soon, he doesn't have to wait like that anymore when his fingerprint is registered into the door access security system. "Good morning, Win!" Phi Margie cheerfully greets him.
