Kristi's POV:
"So how are we going to do this?" Andres asked. He had snuck away early this morning to see Mirabel and I.
"We're going to talk to Delores. She hears anything and everything that's going on." I told him.
"Sounds good. But I'd better get going now. Mama and papa will not be happy if they find out I snuck out. You know what to do as soon as you know something?" Andres spoke up.
"Yep! Knock twice on your door, rest, then knock four times," Mirabel answered. That knock was mine and Andres' special knock for whenever we came to see each other. Mainly for when he came to see me. Casita knows that knock so well by now.
"Exactly. Well, I'll see you girls soon, I hope. Adios!"
"Adios!" Mirabel and I said at the same time. We chuckled before watching Andres disappear into some bushes.
"So, you and Andres seem pretty close, Kristi.~" Mirabel smirked as we turned and started walking towards Casita.
"Well, yea, we are. We've been best friends for as long as I can remember." I stated, not sure what she was driving at.
"Closer than best friends, Kristi." Mirabel remarked.
My eyes went wide at her words. What...? Did Mirabel know somehow...? "Do you know something?" I asked her warily.
"That you have a crush on him? Yes. Yes I do." I sighed in relief.
She thought it was just a crush. I think she can keep a secret, but I just don't want to risk anyone knowing. If word gets to abuela, we're doomed. We'll probably be forbidden to see each other! And abuela will ridicule me even more....And start trying harder to get me together with Francisco. But even then, I'll never date him. Ever.
"Just don't tell abuela, ok? She's really hung up on me dating Francisco." I told her. Though it wasn't really true that I had a crush on Andres, I knew that abuela would do something to keep us apart.
"Don't worry, Prima Kristi. My lips are sealed!"
"Gracias, Mirabel," I smiled gratefully. She nodded, smiling.
At that moment, we spotted Delores at the counter getting some food. Mirabel went up to her and quickly began telling her what we wanted to know. But honestly, there was something off about her. She kept looking at us strangely. Almost....Nervous. And she never said a word. Now Cousin Delores is quiet. But when someone is talking to her, she listens and replies. Then, an idea came to my mind.
"Camilo?" I asked, seeing how Delores would react. She looked in my direction, hearing her brother's name. Or should I say, his name?
"Camilo, stop pretending you're Delores so you can have seconds!" Felix reprimanded, coming up to us.
Delores shapeshifted into Camilo and shrugged. "Worth a shot." my primo stated. Casita smacked him, making him drop his food. I chuckled then noticed Delores walking over.
"The only one worried about the magic is you both and Andres." Delores eyed me as she spoke about Andres. "And the rats talking in the walls." she began walking away but she stopped suddenly and looked at us. "Oh, and Luisa. I heard her eye twitching. Hm." With that, Delores walked away.
Mirabel looked at me. "Go talk to Luisa?" she asked.
"Definitely." I nodded. Together, we walked to the table and sat down near each other. Mirabel, who was sitting next to Luisa, kept trying to talk to her while abuela was talking. Mirabel was sure determined to get information out of her sister. She talking right when she saw her. Me? Well, don't get me wrong, I'm determined to save the miracle too. But I know better than to interrupt abuela when she's talking.
"Ah ha! You do!" Mirabel suddenly shouted, startling me.
"Mirabel, if you cannot pay attention, then I will help you." abuela told her. Here we go. I knew that would happen.
"No, no! Actually I-"
"Casita." abuela requested. Casita moved Mirabel's chair over next to abuela. I couldn't help but chuckle a little. "Anyway, as I was saying, we must never take our miracle for granted. So today, we will work twice as hard."
"Mhm! Kristi and I will help Luisa!" Mirabel said, trying to get out of her chair, but was pushed back by Casita.
"Stop. Kristi has her own work." Abuela said, eyeing me. Uh oh....Why do I get the feeling she's about to announce something bad...? "And now, for the announcement. Francisco Alvarez has asked for our blessing to date our Kristi."
"WHAT?!!" I shrieked, standing up in horror. In the corner of my eye, I noticed a hurt look in Isabella's eyes.
"Kristi!" abuela said in a firm tone. I noticed Delores, covering her ears, trying to block out the sound. I instantly felt bad. But, only for Delores and the fact I hurt her ears.
I sat down and looked at Delores. "I'm sorry, Delores.."
She looked at me and smiled. "It's ok. I understand."
"Now, as I was saying before I was rudely interrupted," abuela looked at me firmly before continuing. "We have accepted his proposal. He is perfect for our family. Kristi, we will help you get ready all we can. He will come by tomorrow evening for that date."
"No! I'm not going out with him!" I exclaimed.
"Kristi...." abuela warned. But I didn't listen.
"Abuela, I am never going to date Francisco! He is a nice young man, I agree, but I don't like him like that and never will!" Isabella looked at me. It almost looked like a glare, but she held a look of hope in her eyes.
"Kristi! Enough!" abuela declared, eyeing me with anger. "We will discuss this later."
I frowned crossly before sitting down.
"And now, I have one more announcement. I have spoken to the Guzmans about Mariano's proposal to Isabella. Delores, do we have a date?"
I could tell Delores was hurt, but she tried not to show it. But then again, she never could hide these things from me. "Tonight. He wants five babies." Isabella was so shocked, she accidentally grew flowers all over her head.
"Wonderful! Such fine young men with our perfect Isabella and beautiful Kristi," abuela smiled. I frowned and glared at her, but didn't say a word. No matter what she says, I'm not dating him. "We'll bring new generations of magical blessings and make all three of our families stronger." All Isa could do was smile while I was fuming mad. Before I could say anything, Abuela walked away. I am not dating, marrying, or having children with Francisco Alvarez!
I was too busy fuming to see or hear much else. I honestly can't believe her! I get she doesn't really like me, but does she have to get together with some guy I don't like?? I like Andres. No one else.
Before I knew it, the family was shouting, "LA FAMILIA MADRIGAL!" Mirabel shouted it a little late. She then noticed Luisa walk away, so she quickly got up and hurried after her. I sighed, knowing I couldn't help her because of my chores.
I quickly got up and followed. Mirabel saw me and smiled. "It's ok, Kristi! You do your chores while I find out what she knows. We'll meet up at the park."
"Deal. Thanks, Mirabel!" I smiled at her.
"No problem!" with that, she hurried off again.
