The lost widow

Part 10

After you fell asleep Nat didn’t want to move and wake you, so she just stayed in bed with you and
shortly after, she fell asleep. Around 6 in the morning you started having a nightmare. You were
reliving the events from last night which led to remembering a lot of stuff you had supressed over
the years. You remembered the first time you got stabbed at training and passed out, but then you
started dreaming of stuff you didn’t remember at all. You were strapped down to a too familiar table
in the lab you were always experimented on, but this time something was different. They usually just
took your blood and injected you with stuff, but this time you were connected to a machine which
was pumping a purplish liquid into your veins. You screamed in agony as the stuff went through your
system. The next thing you remembered is breaking the titanium restraints and running away, only
to be shot moments later, losing consciousness.
You jolted up in bed screaming, waking up Nat who immediately started comforting you, cupping
you face and steadying your shaking body.
Nat: Hey, hey shhhh, it’s just a nightmare, it’s not real.
You struggled to form a sentence, stuttering at every attempt. Your thoughts were filled with what
you just relived. Your nightmare wasn’t just another flashback, which was torture, but wasn’t truly a
memory, or a fragment of your fear materialising as a dream, no this was different. It was as if you
unlocked a long-lost memory. You knew you had been mind-wiped more than a couple of times after
missions, but it never occurred to you that they would have erased a memory of you being
experimented on.
Nat: “Hey, look at me Y/n, hey” (her voice became less demanding and more caring as you started
calming down. Her grip on you became lighter and you started crying as you went out of shock)
“yeah, that’s it, just breathe. In and out, that’s it. You’re safe, it wasn’t real.”
You looked her straight in the eye, still not quite sure what or how to speak.
Y/n: “I-I it-t w-was-”
Nat: “What do you mean.”
Y/n: “I-I remember what they did.”
Nat: “What do you mean?” (She saw you staring off into the distance which implied you were
stressing yourself out) “hey, talk to me, I’m here and I’m listening.”
Y/n: “I knew they did that to me, I just didn’t think they erased that much. I remembered a memory
they wiped…” (you said feeling defeated)
Nat: “Okay, can you tell me what you remembered?” (She said in a gentle, yet worried tone)
Y/n: “I-I” (still shaking a bit) “I was strapped down again, but this time it wasn’t like always, they
pumped some purple liquid into me… it felt like it was tearing me from the inside out, and- and then
I somehow broke the titanium restraints with which I was strapped down with… I ran but they shot
me with a tranquilizer I guess, since I lost consciousness not long after.”
Nat just looked at you wide eyed and hugged you. She very well knew that this could have been a
variant of the super soldier serum, but she didn’t want to freak you out. She knew she had to tell the
others before speaking to you, as not to lead you on a wild goose chase for answers.
Nat: “Hey, it’s okay, we will figure it out together, all of us, do you hear me?”
You just nodded silently and relaxed in her arms, eventually falling asleep again due to the
exhaustion from the panic attack that followed the memory.
Nat laid you down and went downstairs where everyone was already resting after training. She
reluctantly called a meeting and rounded everyone into the conference room so they would have a chance to talk before you woke up.
Nat: “I think I have just solved half our questions regarding Y/n’s powers.”
Tony: “And how is that exactly?” (He said with a judging expression)
Nat: “Y/n had another nightmare, but this time she remembered something. Her mind was wiped...”
(She proceeded to explain everything you had told her) “That’s basically it, my concern is that that
stuff was an unstable version of your super soldier serum…” ( she said looking at Steve and Bucky).
Wanda: “That would explain the fact she didn’t bleed out to death yesterday.”
Strange: “Precisely, but who knows what other abilities or side affects it could cause?” “Considering
the other experiments performed on her…”
Bruce: “We should do some testing to see the full scope of her abilities.”
Bucky: “No way you’re putting that girl through even more experiments. That’s practically all she
knew and it’s going to be terrifying.”
Nat: “He’s right, I’m not putting her through that.”
Yelena: “I agree, that girl has been through enough.”
Wanda: “If you want, I could help her at discovering and controlling whatever abilities she may or
may not have.”
Nat: “Thank you, that would be-“
She stopped talking as she heard something move in front of the closed door. She stood up and
went to open it but there was nothing there. She knew it was you. It had to be you, and she knew
your training so she looked up with an raised eyebrow. And there you were balancing on the
doorframe practically on the ceiling. You gave her a sheepish smile before climbing down.
Nat: “Good morning.” (she chuckled) “so how much of that did you hear?”
Y/n: “Enough.” (you looked at the floor defeated) “do they have to perform those tests on me?”
Nat: “No, no don’t worry, I won’t let them do anything you’re not comfortable with, you understand
me?” (She hugged you reassuringly) “Let’s go in, shall we?”
You followed her in hesitantly as everyone stared at you.
Y/N: Hi everyone.
Everyone said hello and they started explaining everything that they knew to you about the super
soldier serum and what unknown effects it could have on you. When they finished you just blankly
stared at them.
Y/n: “So you’re saying that I basically have superpowers?” “I mean, yeah, I’m a bit stronger and
faster than your average 14-year-old, that’s the main reason I graduated so early, but to have
unearthly powers?” “That’s just insane.” “I mean, I would’ve had some sort of run in with them for
sure, right?” (everyone just stared at you not knowing how to reply) “right?”
Bucky: “Doll, I’m sorry but even if you did by the looks of it, you were probably mind-wiped.”
Tears formed in your eyes as you went to stand up from your seat and leave, but Nat grabbed your
wrist making you stop in you tracks.
Y/n: “Just let me go.”
Nat: “No, we have to talk about this. I’m not letting you shut everything and everyone out. You’re
not alone, we’re here. I’m here.”
Y/n: “I said let me GO!” (Suddenly everything started shaking around you and wind appeared from
seemingly nowhere. Nat quickly let go of your hand as it somehow got scorching hot)
Wanda: “Y/n stop it, calm down you can stop this.”
Y/n: “Why are you looking at me I’m not doing anything.”
Nat looked at you with horror in her eyes which just made you more nervous and in return
everything happening around you- worse.
Wanda: “Okay, everyone out.” (She said as she walked towards you. Everyone left except Nat, who
now just had a serious expression.) “Okay, look at me and focus.” “You can stop this.”
Y/n: “I already told you.” I’m not doing anything, and how would you even know?”
Wanda: “I know you don’t want to accept it, but you are doing this.” (She flashed her eyes red
looking at you) “I can feel you doing it, so just listen to me.”
Y/n: “No, no if I’m doing this, I hurt Nat.” “I wouldn’t hurt her, I wouldn’t, no, no, no!” (You start
breathing heavier as everything escalates even more. You frantically look around and shake your
hands hoping it would do something, anything)
Nat: “Hey, you didn’t hurt me, I’m here, I’m fine.” (She shows you her hands walking closer) “I know
you wouldn’t hurt me, or anyone here on purpose.”
Y/n: “No, just stay away!” “I don’t want to hurt you again…” (Your head starts spinning as you begin
having a full blown panic attack. You start squirming in the spot you stood, not being able to
breathe.)
Wanda: “Y/n, look at me and breathe.” “Everything is going to be okay.” (she took your hands in hers
and you slowly started calming down. Nat hugged you from behind as you started breaking down
from everything spinning out of control)
Wanda: “Yes, that’s it.” “You’re doing great.”
As everything stopped you felt extremely lightheaded and lost you footing starting to fall, but Nat
caught you and gently laid your head in her lap.
Nat: “What’s going on?” “What’s wrong? (She asks looking at Wanda for answers)
W: “Nothing, she’s just exhausted.” “Losing control like that takes a toll on you.” “I’m surprised she
lasted this long.” “She has more power that you can comprehend. “It won’t be easy, but I’ll do
everything on my power to help her.” (She said while kneeling down next to you and holding you
hand.)
