MADDIE WAS SAT at a cafeteria table with Clay and Tyler earlier in the day at lunch. Usually they would be with Justin but no one had seen him. Maddie didn't really pay much mind to it anyway, she'd been trying really hard not to think about him... it was proven unsuccessful.

"Hey. You don't mind if I join, do you? I feel like you're more obligated to be nice to me, at least for the rest of the day"

Maddie's ears park up at a British accent, followed by an unfamiliar girl's face, looking at her brother. "Because you're new?" Clay asks her.

"Or because on my tour you assaulted a guy."

Maddie practically spits out her Gatorade. "You did what?" she practically screams, looking at her brother.

"Ah..." Clay stammers. "...sure, have a seat."

The girl takes a seat across from Clay and beside Maddie before offering a kind smile to her and Tyler. "Hi, Ani."

Maddie lifts her chin. "Maddie. Or Mads, if you want."

Ani looks over at Tyler, waiting for his name. Softly and reluctantly, he gives it. "It's a pleasure, Tyler."

"So, tell me about Clay. He internalizes, doesn't he?"

"Oh, I mean, I don't—" Tyler stutters, looking at Clay.

"You literally just met me. How would you know that?" asks Clay.

Ani offers him a smile but lacks an answer before Justin makes his way over, tossing off his back and slumping down beside Maddie. "Hey."

Maddie offers him a tight-lipped smile but slowly inches away from him. You're supposed to stop thinking about him, Maddie. KEEP YOUR DISTANCE!

Clay looks at him. "Justin, Ani. Ani, Justin."

"Pleasure." Ani greets, earning Justin's charming smile in return. "You know, for a sour puss, you have loads of friends."

"Tyler is my friend." Clay says. "Maddie's my sister and Justin lives with us."

"They're adopting me." he clarifies.

Ani smiles. "Oh, that's fantastic. Clay believes brothers should take care of each other."

"I need... ketchup."

"Get me bag of chips!" Maddie hollers after her brother.

Justin leans forward in his seat to look at Ani and past Maddie. "So, he might seem like an uptight asshole at first, maybe even for a while, but... he's a really good guy, so just give him some time. He's worth it."  Justin lowers his voice to a whisper despite him talking from across Maddie. "And Maddie seems like a bitch, but she's actually really nice once you get to know her."
