season three, episode six
𝟢𝟣𝟦, 𝗀𝗋𝗂𝖾𝖿MADDIE STRADDLED the counter at the Crestmont, popping a few Skittles into her mouth. It probably wasn't hygienic, but the theater was closing in a few minutes, and she was just killing time until Jessica was off. She was laughing at something Charlie had said, while Jessica scolded her.
"Mads, babe, you know I love you, but I'm trying to clean these counter tops. Your shoes are getting dirt prints all over the place!"
Maddie rolls her eyes and holds the Skittles wrapper between her teeth while she slides off the counter. She leans on it and looks at Charlie. "If you ever need therapy after working for her, let me know and I will personally pay for it."
Charlie chuckles lightly while Jessica flips her off. Maddie's head is thrown back in laughter before Charlie starts speaking. "Justin. Hey, how's it going?"
Maddie's ear perk up at the mention of his name and she immediately spins around. Justin smiles awkwardly to Charlie as he walks over. "It's pretty good, Charlie. Think you could..." Justin looks at him and Jessica. "If you guys could just give us a minute?"
Jessica already knew about the two hooking up, not that Maddie wanted her to know, per se. It just so happened Jessica was on Maddie's phone when Justin sent a particularly rated R text to it. Maddie didn't hear the end of it. But, Jessica was the only person who knew, besides Clay and Ani now. Charlie was just simply clueless, just like Maddie preferred.
Jessica nods. "Yeah, for sure. Charlie has some scraping to do, and I have to take inventory in the back anyway."
"Thanks." Justin nods as they scurry off.
Maddie hums, popping another Skittle in her mouth before holding the package to Justin. "Skittle?" Justin shakes his head, his eyes slowly growing more dim and sad. Maddie furrows her brows. "Whoa. What's going on?"
Justin looks behind him before putting a hand on Maddie's back, leading her to a secluded corner. "They, um, arrested Tony. He's been there all night." Maddie looks at him with widened eyes. "Clay says they've made some connection with Bryce."
This was all news to Maddie. Clay gave up on telling her just about everything and, honestly, she'd been avoiding anything related to Bryce or his murder. She just couldn't deal after what happened at the funeral.
Maddie runs a hand through her hair. "Fuck! Tony, I—"
Justin nods. "I know. You don't think he could, right?"
"Justin, I've known this kid as long as Clay has. I mean, he loses it sometimes, but we all do. Plus, he's barely even interacted with Bryce. I— I can't believe... they actually found something?" Justin nods. "Jesus."
