MADDIE LACED UP HER CONVERSE that morning with a less than optimal attitude. After the drama of the last few days, Maddie wanted nothing more than to rot away in her bed, but she knew she couldn't. She figured she might as well get on with her life.

She pushed her notebooks into her backpack before zipping it up and flinging it over her shoulder. Grabbing her keys from her desk, she exited her room, closing the door behind her. She skipped down the stairs, before walking into the kitchen where she intended to grab something to eat and grab the boys from outside.

Only, she didn't get very far after seeing her parents sitting with Dennis at the table.

Maddie stopped almost immediately. "Mom, Dad... Dennis? What's going on?"

"Maddie, honey, why don't you go grab the boys," Lainie tells her. "We need to talk with your brother."

Maddie opens her mouth for a moment before quicks shutting it. She lets her backpack fall to the ground and heads for the backdoor, pausing when Justin and Clay are already walking through it.

Justin's brows furrow at the sight of Maddie's state before he rounds the corner and realizes himself. He looks at her with an expression to match hers.

"What happened?" asks Clay.

"Clay, honey, sit down." Lainie tells him.

Clay doesn't move a single muscle. "I don't want to sit down."

Matt and Lainie look to Dennis slowly and he looks Clay. "You've officially been named a person of interest by the Sheriff. He held a press conference this morning."

"A press conference?"

"What does that mean? 'A person of interest.' What the fuck is that?" Justin asks, looking at the parents.

"It means they think he did it," Maddie says blankly.

Dennis shakes his head. "It's a tactic."

"It means nothing legally," Lainie pipes up.

"It doesn't feel like nothing. It fells like they're about to arrest me."

"They can't arrest you. They don't have enough. So they try to put public pressure on you. They don't have enough evidence on you to call you a suspect, but they want you to be scared." Dennis says.

Clay is wide-eyed as he nods his head. "Well done, then."

"Maybe it's best if you three stay home from school today." Matt suggests.

"No. No way, we're not doing that." Clay protests, starting to walk away.

Justin steps over to Clay. "Clay—"
