Alien hygiene, you found, was weird no matter where you went.

On the Galra ship, the only way to clean yourself was in a bath filled with some strange murky blue liquid that turned yellow once it was dirty. You were only able to take baths a couple of times a week, but it was better than nothing. Though, you could do with not having to bath in the strange-smelling liquid. Altean showers, in comparison, were relatively similar to the ones you were used to on Earth. A standing shower with a shower head letting water rain from the ceiling. The bar of soap, however, was more oily than sudsy, and you had to have Keith help you thoroughly scrub your body multiple times until you felt fully clean.

Sharing a shower with him was not a foreign concept. Ever since you got together, showering together had been a regular occurrence. Sometimes it did get a little steamier than intended, but otherwise, you two had developed a pretty efficient system. It seems even after a year of not seeing him, you hadn't forgotten that system. You also hadn't forgotten how skilled you two could be in the shower.

You stepped out of the shower, water running down your legs as you got a towel to wipe down your body. Keith followed right after, yelping as you threw the other towel at his face. You laughed and dodged the jab he aimed at your waist.

As you dried yourself, you stood in front of the mirror above the sink. You had to do a double take as you allowed yourself a few moments to look. There were no mirrors available to you on the ship, so you realized that this was the first time you looked at your reflection in months. And damn, were you shocked at what you were looking at.

Your hair was a mess. It grew wildly over the months, and with no way to care for it, it was damaged beyond recognition. It would be a nightmare caring for it back to how you had it before Keith disappeared. There were also bags under your eyes so large they were designer. It was like looking at a corpse with how sunken your eyes were. You reached up and rubbed at your eyes, not believing what you were seeing.

Trailing your sight down, you realized that scars were littering your body. Everywhere you looked, there seemed to be one just popping up out of nowhere. They ranged significantly from little ones on your knuckles from punching one of the sentries (you could remember the punishment to that one crystal clear) to large ones that ran over your chest and stomach. You couldn't even remember how you got many of these scars, but they were there. It was going to serve as a constant reminder of a time that you didn't want to remember.

You did not like what you were looking at.

"Hey," Keith murmured, coming up from behind you. He placed his hands on your waist, his bare chest pressed flush against your back. He leaned down to press his mouth to your shoulder, softly kissing at a mark that he left there.

"Hey," you whispered back. You couldn't pull your eyes away from your figure. From your peripheral, you saw Keith look up to see what you were looking at.

"What's on your mind, love?"

You shook your head. "Nothing. I just... I haven't seen myself in a mirror for a long time, that's all."

Keith kissed his teeth and fully wrapped his arms around you, one arm snaking around your stomach as his other hand travelled up to comfortably hold onto your breast. "There's more to that. I know you."

You sighed and resigned to telling him what was on your mind as you leaned your head back to rest against his shoulder. "I don't like who I've become. I'm not beautiful anymore."

"Hey, hey," Keith interrupted, looking at you through the mirror. "Don't say that."

"But it's true. I'm all scarred now. Hell, I've got scars on my face! How can you look at me?"
