"Oh my god."

"Is that a good 'oh my god' or a bad one?"

"Oh my god, she's beautiful."

Keith chuckled beside you, gripping your hand tight. Turns out the thing he wanted to show you was the red lion in her hangar. You had heard the rumours and listened to the stories, but they absolutely paled in comparison to the real thing.

For one thing, it was fucking gigantic. You were standing at the entrance to the hangar, your neck craned up just to be able to see the head of the lion. It was easily more than three stories tall. Made it easier for you to see all the details of its underbelly and claws, and god damn were there a lot of details to marvel at. It was a beautiful piece of machinery, and you didn't know whether to be in awe or be afraid.

As you looked up at its head, which was a bajillion times the size of your body alone, you could see the yellow of its eyes. Maybe it was because you were in shock at the sheer amazement of the robot, but you could have sworn that you felt something coming from it when you met its eyes. Or, eye windows? Whatever the case was, there was an energy radiating off the lion. You could feel the absolute power the lion held like a blow to your gut.

Feeling a little breathless, you turned to your boyfriend with wide eyes. "And you're bonded to it? This... massive thing?"

"Yup. Bonded to her like glue." Keith seemed to find your shocked expression amusing. He chuckled again and pulled you in to kiss your forehead. "You're cute like this, by the way," he said with a grin.

You pursed your lips at him before you turned your head away as you felt your face grow hot. "Shut up." Not the best comeback, but you were too busy admiring the giant space lion in front of you.

As Keith continued to laugh at you like the little shit he was, you took that opportunity to steal another glance at the lion. You couldn't get enough of it. It was like a black hole, sucking up your attention to it until it was the only thing that you could think of, no matter how hard you tried to pry your eyes from it.

"Come on," Keith said, breaking your focus with his amused tone. "Let me introduce you to her."

You whipped your head to look at him as your heart skipped a beat. "Introduce me?" Your question came out a little incredulously. What, like a 'meet the parents' sort of deal? You could already feel your hands getting a little sweaty from the thought of it.

Keith took a few steps towards Red, only stopping when you, with your feet glued to the floor from how nervous you were, kept him back through your interconnected hands. He huffed and tugged on you, prying your feet from their heavy hold on the rest of your body. "She'll like you, trust me," he said.

You reluctantly allowed Keith to guide you closer to the imposing red lion, but you were still on edge. It felt like you were about to meet royalty, a giant mechanical feline monarch, and you hoped you wouldn't do anything to offend this majestic creature. You could already picture it now. Keith introduces you to his lion, she doesn't approve of you, and so she swallows you whole and spits you out into space.

As you approached, the lion made no indication of acknowledging you or Keith. But you could feel a ripple of something pass by you, like a wave of energy, and it was impossible to shake the feeling that it was studying you, evaluating you. It was an unnerving sensation, and you couldn't help but grip Keith's hand a little tighter.

Keith, unfazed by your anxiety, walked up to the lion until you were standing near its front claws. He spoke to the lion as if they were old friends. "Hey. This is my girlfriend. Remember her? And how important she is to me? I wanted you to meet her properly."
