"So?" Kelly asked.

"So what?"

"First, don't ever tell me again you can't sing.  And two, you and Adam seem to be hitting it off."

Alison suddenly lost the little happiness he had given her, if only for a minute or two.  "What does that mean, Kel?  Please tell me you didn't. . ."

"No.  Oh, no no no.  No.  I did not set this up.  I didn't know he would be here.  I just noticed y'all seem to be getting along well, that's all."

"Kel, don't.  I'm not interested."  Her brain however was smacking the shit out of her.  Her unspoken thoughts were already driving down the road of wanting to get at everything that he housed in those jeans and just how amazing he'd feel inside of her.

"I'm not.  Just making observations.  Promise."

"Okay."  Alison had a bit of resistance to her voice.  She knew Kelly better than that.  She liked to meddle.

"I'm back.  Did you miss me?" Adam joked as he slid in next to Alison, and putting his left arm around her. She looked up and saw Kelly's eyes widen; she knew now Kelly had not set this up.  Still, she felt a hair uncomfortable, even if she was imagining him showering her with his lips.

"Uh, well," Alison wasn't sure how to answer him.  She'd just met him.

He laughed, "it's okay.  Just joking around doll."

She turned to face him.  There it was again.  That sparkle to those hazel orbs that suddenly reminded her that she loved men.

"So, you gonna get back up there?" he asked Alison.

"Oh, I don't know.  Maybe.  Baby steps," was her reply.

"That's fair."  He seemed somehow, disappointed.

"Are you okay?" she asked.  His mood went from playful and energetic, to a tad sad.  But her inquiry made him perk up.

"Oh yeah.  I'm good."  Alison could tell he wasn't.  But, she did not want to pry.  Having just met him, she'd rather not piss him off.  Rather, she sat in silence, staring forward at Kelly as if to cue her to say something.  Instead, Adam spoke again.  "Who wants another drink?"

"No thanks hun," Kelly replied.

"Sure, why not.  I'll take one more."  Alison was being a little more bold.  She had only had one beer.  A second one would not hurt.

"I'll be back," and Adam departed again and went to the bar.

"Did I say something wrong?" Alison asked of Kelly.

"No, Ally.  He's just been through some shit."

"Like what?  Can't be worse than my shit."

"Trust me, it is.  But it's not my place to tell you."

Well, wasn't that a switch.  Kelly never had issues blabbing shit about everyone, Alison included, and now, suddenly, she shuts her mouth like she's been threated with super glue.  Alison was just about to call her out on it when she saw a glass bottle slide in front of her.  "That was fast.  Thank you Adam."

"You're welcome," and he slid in next to her again.  Except this time he said, "you don't mind, do you?"

"No, not at all."  She turned to view his face.  Eyes still with a sparkle, and tad of scruff to his jawline that made his somewhat babyface stand out, his blonde locks combed back and free falling, as it had a little length to it.  She felt a bit like melting.  Just looking at him was making her temperature rise.

"Ahhhhh, enough of this solemn shit," he began, "need to have some fun."

"What are you doing?" Alison asked as she watched him exit the booth.

Adam grabbed her hand, "Come with me."  He led her to where others had made a dance area by the stage.

"Adam, no. I. . ."

"Oh don't tell me you can't dance.  I won't believe you."  As he said this, he spun her with their hands above her head.  When she stopped, he made sure it was with her having no choice but to look at him.

And she did.

She looked him dead in the face.  She felt like a school girl that had just come face to face with her secret crush.  She hadn't looked at a man that way in years.  Then she felt him pull her into him - close.  He placed his right arm and hand around her lower back, while clasping her right with his left.  He looked down at her and smiled.  All she could do was smile back as they began to moved with the music.  She was so taken aback being held by him, she couldn't even acknowledge the song.
