Time To Say Goodnight

"Who is this guy?"  she thought to herself.  "What is his deal?  Who cares?  He's paying attention to you. He's definitely good looking.  He dances.  Don't question shit!"  But amongst all that, Alison was still terrified.  Her heart was still a thousand fragments.  She wasn't looking for anything.  "But damn, I wouldn't mind fucking him," ran through her head.  Then, out loud she spoke quickly, "No!"

Adam, confused, pushed himself back from her and spoke, "Did I do something wrong?"

Realizing she spoke aloud, she quickly tried to cover herself.  "No, no.  My mind wandered is all.  Sorry."

"Okay.  I don't want to make you uncomfortable."

"You're not."

The music stopped and she pushed back from him.  He just kept staring at her.  "What?" she asked very self conscious.

He just smiled and brushed her hair off her right shoulder.  "Nothing," he replied.

"You're looking at me weird," she said, with a giggle to her words.

"No.  This would be looking at you weird."  He proceeded to cross his eyes and stick his tongue out.

Again, giggling, Alison spoke, "Oh my God.  You're such a goof."

The next couple hours of the night were quite similar.  Adam was almost glued to Alison.  Why, she didn't quite understand.  She was a hot mess really.  Yet, at the same time, it felt amazing to be on the receiving end of male attention.  "Wow," she spoke, "it's been quite a while since I heard last call."

"Oh yeah?  Is that a good or a bad thing?" he asked.

"Meh, I really don't know.  I guess good."  She didn't realize three a.m. could come so quickly anymore.  She was surprised at herself.

"Well, I'm saying it's bad."  Adam shot her a look she couldn't describe.

"Bad?  Why?"

"Well, because the fun for tonight is over."

If he had said this to her perhaps five or ten years ago, she would've told him the fun didn't have to end.  But having an hear of stone now, no matter how much he lit her up with just a glance, she was not going down that road.  Instead, "Oh, I'm sure there will be more nights for fun."  Her head yelled at her, "JUST TAKE HIM HOME!"

"That's true," and he reached over and took hold of her hand.

"What is he doing?" her brain fired off.

"It is late.  Let me walk you to your car,"  Adam stated.

"Uh, sure."  Again, her brain hit the gas pedal, "Oh my God girl.  Just ask him to go home with you.  Mount him!"

"Let me just say good night to a few people."  Adam walked away, talking to other men and women.  Alison made her way over to Kelly who was standing by the stage.

"I'm leaving Kel."

"Okay.  You gonna be okay?"

"Yeah, I'm fine.  I only had two. . ."

"No, I mean.  I know this was hard for you tonight."

"Eh, yeah.  But baby steps, right?"

Just then, Alison felt an arm go around her waist and saw Kelly's eyes widen.  "You ready doll?" Adam asked Alison.

"Uh, yeah. Sure."

"Okay, c'mon."  He noticed Kelly's expression.  "I'm just walking her to her car.  Get your mind outta there."

"See," Alison though to herself, "he doesn't want that anyway.  Just another one acting like he cares."  She felt so stupid.  All her anger bubbled up and she spoke aloud, "Ya know, I think I'll be find by myself.  My truck is right out front.  Thanks anyway."  And she took off.  "Stay away," she thought, "this is why you stay away from men."
