No one really knew about the existence of mermaids. Anytime someone tried to tell others of their existence, they'd get shunned. Especially when people in the Akadeymia wrote a thesis on them. Mermaids were just a fairy tale right?

You were a mermaid from Fontaine. Everyone else always warned you to stay away from the humans because they're dangerous and unpredictable. They weren't wrong, but you've always wanted to see one for yourself. Sure, there was the occasional diver or two. The most frequent was one with blonde hair, only one blue eye visible who always seemed sad.

But you've wanted to see them on land and how their... legs work. You've always shuttered at the thought of having two fins. It was alien to you and creeped you out immensely.

In recent years, the water level has been increasing. This usually meant new areas to explore and possibly new things humans left behind for you to collect out of curiosity. Sometimes it'd be lost jewelry or things you've never seen before. It also increased the chance of finding a human, since the shore line was getting closer to civilization.

One day, you decided to go to the surface. Your parents always told you things like "it's too dangerous up there," or "what if you died?" Yet curiousity got the better of you.

You were happily swimming around, giggling and twirling in the water. It was exhilarating swimming this fast. As you went on, you couldve sworn that you heard a human. You cautiously swam up to the shore line and peeked your head out of the water behind a big rock. The breeze felt cold on your face.

As you looked around for the source of the noise, you could see a woman who looked to be practicing with a sword. She had long black hair in a low ponytail with a light blue streak in her bangs. What baffled you the most about her appearance was her legs. She wore a short boxer skirt, but her legs were dark grey. You were extremely confused since the rest of her skin looked pale. Was this a human thing? Could they customise their legs? Or were their legs always different colors, like how every mermaid's tail is a different color?

You had a lot of questions, until you heard her stop and look near your direction. After a while of  you hiding behind the rock, she spoke.

"Who's there?!"

You peeked your head around the rock to look at the woman. Her sword was pointed out and she didn't look happy.
