He could not be having a worse day. First, (Y/n) had ditched him before he'd even woken up, leaving only a note that she'll be back in the afternoon. What was he supposed to do until then? There wasn't much to do around her house, and if she just expected him to sit around and do nothing, she was sorely mistaken.

So he went to find a decent chilidog. There had to be some in the Dregs, right?

Turns out, without (Y/n) at his side, the criminals thought he was an easy target. So after bashing a few heads and earning himself a few scrapes that he was quickly having to adjust to getting, he limped off to the supermarket to find the supplies to make his own chilidogs.

And somehow found himself in the middle of a territory dispute.

Sucking in a deep breath and willing himself some patience, Sonic adjusted his grip on the basket he was holding and unholstered his gun with his free hand, checking to make sure the safety was on before shoving it against the hawk's head. The bird had shoved a female bobcat up against one of the shelves, his talons digging into her neck, blood staining the collar of her jacket.

"It's a supermarket," Sonic said in a low voice. The hawk blinked, seemingly taken aback. "How about you guys just go shopping? Either way, you're both going to have to pay for your groceries, no matter who owns the dirt the building stands on."

"Not if I shoot the cashier," the bobcat wheezed and Sonic shot her a withering look. "Okay, goody two shoes!" She made a choking sound as the hawk squeezed her neck. Sonic narrowed his eyes, clicking the safety off on his gun. The hawk glanced at him out of the corner of his eyes, his mouth twitching upwards just before Sonic felt the cold metal press against the side of his head. His ears fell back, upper lip twitching in disdain. The hawk pushed the hedgehog's gun away, hauling the bobcat away from the shelf and tossing her to the floor.

"Ow," she groaned, rubbing at her neck. She recoiled as the hawk shoved his own gun in the center of her face.

"Checkmate, Serena," he sneered.

In the next few seconds, Sonic twisted the Mobian's arm holding the gun to his head until the bones creaked, the weapon clattering to the floor as Sonic fired off two shots in succession. There was a moment of silence where the hawk turned his head slowly to stare at the hedgehog before dropping his own gun and collapsing on the floor, gripping his gushing leg.

"You insane--"

"Save it," Sonic snapped, shoving the hawk's lackey forward. He stepped around the pair, reaching a hand towards the bobcat. She blinked, pointing between him and herself.

"You're helping me?" she said skeptically. "You do realize I'm also a gangster?"

"Yes, I realize that," Sonic sighed, shaking his hand. She stared at him, then slowly reached forward to take his hand. He pulled her to her feet, drawing a roll of bandages out of his jacket pocket. He tossed them to her and she caught them expertly, her free hand drifting to her neck.

"Just can't resist someone in need?" she said, beginning to unwrap the roll. She ripped off a small piece to dab at the puncture wounds, looking him up and down. Sonic glanced away, moving to collect his discarded basket.

"Guess so," he muttered, quite ready to be done with the situation. The bobcat hummed thoughtfully behind him.

"Well...then I owe you."

Sonic's ears perked and he spun around, straightening with his basket in his hands. "Oh, no," he said, shaking his vigorously. "You don't need to do that."

"What?" She grinned. "Don't want a favor from a gang boss?" She pressed her right hand over her heart and held up her left hand. "I swear on my life -- that I now owe you -- that you're safe from my crew, and that if you ever need anything, we've got your back."
