I sat next to my clothing and quarterstaff watching the humans run off. "You should see someone about those wounds."
I looked up at Rat, she stood there in human form looking down at me. "I will."
The other yaspilrmeth were in human form through the fight and stayed in human form as they started the cleanup. "MUM!" Katja ran up to me and hugged me.
"I'm glad you're safe Pup. Are you wounded?" I asked wagging my tail.
She shook her head letting me go and gathering up my clothing. I stood looking back at the Dragons and other yaspilrmeth as the raised voices drew my attention. "We can chase them down!" One of them yelled.
My anger rose and I couldn't keep myself quiet any longer. "Don't be foolish! If you chase after those humans they will come back with a bigger group. Right now you can say they attacked you! How will it look if you tried to run them down?"
The anger turned on me as they saw me sitting there as a wolf. "And what will happen when they come back because of you?" One of them yelled.
"Don't be a fool! Who saw me as a wolf fighting those men?" They shifted looking upset. "That is what I thought. If you didn't see me you don't know." The people looked upset by my words. They seemed torn between knowing I was right and not wanting to hear me. "Come, Pup, let's go back to our camp to lick our wounds. We are not wanted here!"
She nodded and we walked off to the trees. We walked in silence with Katja carrying my things. I looked up at her and saw the conflict on her face. I wonder if that's for hurting people or because I got hurt.
Michi stood on seeing my fur matted with blood as soon as we walked into camp. "You're bleeding!"
I growled at him but he was unfazed as he started to fuss over my wounds. "Pup go to bed and get some sleep." I said softly to her. She put my clothes down in our tent and climbed into her own without another word. She is wounded... not physically but she is wounded. I walked away from Michi to the area closed off to the camp. Morphing I slipped into the cool water. Watching the blood drift away from my wound. The blood swirled mixing with the water in a dance of buoyancy. The coolness of the water made the throbbing in my wound ease.
Katja did well but she wasn't ready for that. I should have left her here... but if I had left here here she would have resented me for it. Just like I resented my sister when she fought off the bandits and left me with the pups.
I sighed as Michi came over with some of our supplies. "This was foolish." I said to him gesturing to the large gash across my leg.
"What happened?"
"Pup was not watching her back, and I stepped in, taking some of the blow."
He smiled as he tended to my wound. "That sounds like a good reason to have a scar." I frowned thinking on this while he patched me up. When he was done he gently dried me off. "You are a good warrior, you know that, don't you?"
