The day was filled with work. I'd found an old forge and tools in the castle near the keep. It was a large one with a house around the back for the smith to live in.
It didn't take long for me to clean it out, check the tools and load the forge with coal I had brought with us. I used my smith skills and the small amount of iron I'd found to make hinges and nails for doors and windows.
I stopped at midday for lunch and saw that the camp had been moved into the castle now that the gate had been rebuilt. The camp was nothing more than a campfire just inside the gate. When lunch was done I went straight back to work. I lost myself in the rhythm of making the things we need. Sparks few and the smell of hot metal burned my nose.
When the sparks and the glowing metal were the only light left in the room I looked up from it. I saw the Purple Dragon that had appeared at some point, she was fiddling with something I couldn't see. She smiled at me. "You lost yourself in this work so much you didn't stop at sundown. It is long past meal time Kyros of the mountain."
"Sorry." I grumbled.
The Dragon offered me a wrapped package of dried food and I sat next to her. "I have been caught this way myself. There is no need to apologise for it."
She put her arm around me and I frowned at her. "I don't wish to be rude Purple Dragon... but I'm not interested."
She laughed hugging me to her. "And I have no interest in you. You are not a woman. We are the same in this."
I frowned looking at the food. "Then why are you..."
She smiled at me. "Because we are the same. I could do with a friend out here. My bothers are... aggressive." She wants me to fight off other Dragons? "Do not get me wrong. If we spend time together the others will leave me alone. It is not like you will need to fight them."
Ahh. So she just needs to be close to me. "Fine... but I warn you, I'm grumpy." She smiled and rubbed her chin on my head. I waved my hands at her growling. "Hay...cut that out."
"I have marked you as mine. At least for now."
I growled and then sighed. "Just don't hog my furs."
She frowned then her eyes went wide. "You will share a bed with me?" I nodded. She patted my shoulder. "That really will cause a stir. Thank you, Kyros."
Why has she stopped using my title? Because she is my friend now? Ahhhhh Dragons! They are so frustrating. She grinned at me as if she knew what I was thinking.
I ate silently, and she sat with her eyes closed, head back. She looked asleep but I knew she wasn't. She took deep breaths letting them out slowly. Her fingers would twitch like she was reaching for something. I felt myself needing to ask her a question."What are you doing?"
