Black urged his brother to hurry up. He needed to get them as far as possible from the dangerous group. White's uneasiness leaked through their bond, but Black tried to ignore it. He would explain it later when they found a safe place. The sunset was approaching, and the forest was getting darker even the wind picked up on its force. The noises from the group of killers fell silent, indicating they must have run far enough.
"We need to find a shelter. Any ideas?" Black asked as he pushed White behind the giant rock. His brother took the GPS out of his pocket, examining it before he compared it with the paper map. Black observed his twin working things out, feeling strangely proud. White was always the smarter one of them. Not that Black was stupid. He just didn't like studying. He was able to keep good grades thanks to White and his tutoring. Dad never forced him, knowing he wasn't good at it. His encouragement and understanding made him more valuable in his eyes.
"There should be a cave nearby," White announced, pulling him out of thinking.
"Good, let's go."
They were on the way again. White navigated them through the thick wild bush. It didn't take long, and Black spotted a rock hidden behind tree trunks. He stopped White from going further.
"I will check it first. We can't be sure if anyone occupied it." Black knew his twin wanted to protest, but he silenced him, and with a swift move, he removed his backpack. White couldn't say anything as he rushed towards the cave entrance. Black scanned the opening and its near surroundings. Slowly, he crept to the dark hole, peeking inside the cave. He didn't see any light coming from inside, nor did he hear any sound. It was a good sign. He made a few steps inside, just to be sure. The room in the cave wasn't big, but it would serve as a shelter for him and White just fine. He could already picture his baby brother cooking soup for them on their small portable stove. Even the idea of hot, delicious nectar running down his throat sounded good.
He sighed, fixing the mask on his face before checking the space for the last time. Suddenly, his heart beat faster, and the rush of fear ran through his whole body. It wasn't his emotions. His eyes widened.
"White." He breathed out. His body acted on its own, sprinting towards the place where he left his baby brother earlier. If anything happens to him, he will never forgive himself.
