"What the fuck." Black gasped as the beast appeared. The fur of that thing was grey, with blood stains here and there. But it wasn't this that startled him. The enormous head, torn ears, long muzzle with sharp blood-stained fangs and deep yellow eyes were the worst. The animal looked more undead than living. Black sneaked his arms around White's waist, pulling him closer. Though the double bars served as a good shield for now, he didn't want to risk anything.
"Fuck, do they experiment here?" Sean gasped.
"I don't think they did it. Maybe the toxins from the factory changed the animal's genetics or something." White came up with his theory.
"You are not wrong here." The familiar voice sounded from behind them. Black swiftly moved around, coming face to face with the Tawi's men and the grinning scientist. Black hurriedly hid, White behind his back. Even Sean stepped forward, shielding his brother. How did they miss the group arriving? They must have been too occupied with the beast. Black's thoughts wandered towards Gram and Yok. Hopefully, they weren't caught.
"You know, this used to be a wolf." The man stepped towards the door. Sean, Black and White moved to the side as he and his armed companion got closer. Black watched his every move. Tapping in the code, the bar beeped and opened, and he walked inside. The guards made them step in after him. Black kept White by his side all the time.
"Whole pack." He laughed as he looked around. The horrifying echoes of howling and growling reached them from the cells.
"So you are experimenting on them?" Sean asked.
"What do you think?" The man laughed.
"How are they still alive? They look dead." White almost whispered.
"The toxins changed their DNA. It made them bigger, more resistant and unfortunately hungrier." The man looked at White.
"When we discovered them, they consumed most of the animals in the area."
"It must cost you millions to feed them." White frowned.
"Not really." The scientist waved his hand.
"Did you know they can stay up to six months without food?"
"So you feed them, run out of money and starve them?" Black retorted.
"Not quite. You can get food and interesting scientific data for free once a year." He shrugged. It hit him like a train. All the things he saw clicked together. Black's stomach twisted, and he barely held the urge to vomit.
"You are using the contestants to feed them? No, you are feeding them contestants." White gasped.
"You are disgusting. You and Tawi both." Sean spat.
"Mr Tawi's resources aren't endless. The Hunt was an idea to keep our work and his money intact." The man turned around, looking at the wolf beast before walking to the notebook lying carelessly on the nearby table.
"You don't understand how important this research is." He touched the closed computer with his fingers.
"More important than a human life?" Black snapped.
"You need sacrifices for a better good." He shrugged.
"You are insane," Sean shouted.
"Not really. I simply love the science. You know there is something more I would like to research." The scientist glanced at the twins. Black immediately understood. That's why their mother fought for their custody. How could she offer them like a laboratory rats?
"Emergency alert. Fire at the area twenty-one." The report came out from the ceiling speakers. The light fluttered. Black used the guard's confusion, kicking him in the knee and punching him in the face. The guy dropped on the floor unconscious. Sean took care of the other one. They took their guns, and Black immediately aimed at the scientist.
"Move," Sean commanded, stepping closer to the man. He pushed him with the barrel, directing him towards the stairs. Black nudged White to follow him. His brother was shocked, but he obeyed him. He managed to grab the notebook and trusted it in White's arms.
They walked up the stairs. The whole building was in chaos. People were running around aimlessly. Sean pushed the scientist in the hallway leading to the storage room.
"Here!" Yok waved at them from around the corner.
"You won't get out of here." The man snorted.
"Let's see." Black smiled before he knocked him in the head.
"Hurry up!" Gram shouted. The group jumped over the lying body, joining the two.
"We need to get out of here," Black shouted, pushing his brother towards the storage room. The gang followed after them. The escape from the building was quick. Black operated like a robot with only one thing in mind. White. He needed to get White out of here and to their dad.
"Car! Ran towards the car!" Sean yelled, and Black obeyed. Gripping White's tiny hand, he dragged him towards the vehicle. Luckily, the car wasn't locked. Settled inside with his brother in the middle and Sean on the other side, Black kept his eyes on the guard's that suddenly appeared at the entrance. The engine roared, and the car sprung from the spot. Black wasn't sure where Gram and Yok got the keys, but he didn't question it. The car broke through the closed gate and burst into the woods. Black barely perceived the shouting and shooting, thanks to the adrenalin rushing through his veins.
