Lilli and Enola arrived at the ball. They went seperate ways once again to find William. Lilli spotted him and walked over. She tried to talk to him but found out she couldn't unless she had a chaperon. The brunette was stood upstairs looking over the balcony, watching all the the people dancing. That's when a women comes up to her.
"Terrible, aren't they? These things." The women says. "All pompidou and popinjay. Have we met somewhere before? I feel I recognise you from somewhere."
"I simply have on of those faces." Lilli answers.
"Mira Troy, private secretary to Lord McIntyre. Treasury minister." The women says.
"Daisy Nielsen." Lilli says, going for her go to undercover name.
"You mustn't let them concern you." Mira tells her, after the pair shake hands. "It's just a performance. Everyone here is playing a part. Testing each other. Winning. Loosing. And it's fun, once you know the rules."
"What are they doing with those fans?" lilli asks.
Of course Lilli knew what they were doing, it was one of the only things her mother taught her. She knew what it all meant as well.
"Sneding messages. Saying everything that is forbidden, or too embarrassing to say aloud." Mira says, causing the two girls to laugh.
"Thank you for the lesson." Lilli says.
"It's a lesson hard learned. Without power, we women must rely on our wits for our fortune, because our chances are short. Here. Take my fan. I have no use for it. And if you wish to speak to William, you could always try with that."
Mira then walks away. Lilli spots Enola talking to a women with blonde hair. The brunette then jokingly flutters the fan. When she finishes she makes eye contact with a guy. He points to himself surprised.
"No, no, no. Not you." Lilli says, as the guy walks over to her.
"It would be my delight." He says.
"lilli then ushershim away using the fan.
"Really? there's no need to be rude." The guy says.
"I didn't mean to." Lilli says, as he walks away before Lilli then looks across from her to see Tewkesbury. She smiles making her way over. "What's a fine eligable bachelor like you doing here all alone?"
Tewkesbury lightly laughs. Even though Lilli tried to change her voice, he still recognised it was her.
"Maybe I am just waiting for the right person to dance with." Tewkesbury replies, turning to her, hand still on the railing.
"How do you not know the right person hasn't already come along?" Lilli asks.
"Well I do not. I mean for all I know, the person I'm looking at right now is the right person. But, I will not know that until she removes her mask." Tewkesbury says, causing Lilli to laugh and look down, as Twekesbury steps forward so their bodies were nearly touching.
Lilli looks up and Tewkesbury slowly leans his hands up and rests a hand on either side of of her face. He slowly takes her mask off and the pair stare into each others eyes.
"Definitely the right person." Tewkesbury whispers.
Lilli smiles before looking around and grabbing Tewkesbury hands.
"I need to tell you something. Come with me." Lilli says, before dragging Tewkesbury to the bathroom.
"What do you need to tell me?" Tewkesbury asks, as Lilli closes the door.
"I'm looking for a murderer." Lilli bulrts out.
"Wait what?" Tewkesbury asks.
"Me and Enola are trying to save a girls life. And uhm... I... In all honesty I haven't danced with ayone this way in years." Lilli admits. "Please can you help me. We danced together when we were younger, it would be nice to do it again, right?"
"It would be nice to dance with you again, I must admit. But let me get something straight. You want to save a girls life through dance?" Tewkesbury asks.
"Please, Tewkesbury?" Lilli asks.
"Of course." Tewkesbury says with a small smile, before the pair get into the position. "You follow I will lead."
"Now that's just a accident waiting to happen." Lilli says jokingly.
"Just look over my shoulder." Tewkesbury says.
Lilli laughs looking over his shoulder, even though she couldn't see it she could feel his eyes staring at her. The two started to dance, and it felt like they were the five year old kids that would dance around in their living rooms together. While dancing the pair find themelves staring at each other.
"You seem different since the last time we spoke." Tewkesbury states. "Tell me why you've been coming to the park. Why... why watch me walk to the Lords?"
"Simply keeping an eye on you, in case you get yourself into any more scrapes." Lilli answers. "Getting thrown out of trains."
"Lilli-" Tewkesbury starts.
"You cannot be trusted to take care of yourself." Lilli says.
"I'm a man now." Tewkesbury says.
"You're a man when I tell you you're a man." Lilli tells him.
"And the scrapes I find myself in are far less visceral." Tewkesbury says, Lilli looks down. "Look into my eyes." She looks up. "The rhythm is always there. Feel it?"
"I can feel it." lilli says, as she continues to stare into his eyes.
The two continue to dance, their faces getting insanely close mutltipl times.
"We have an urgent situation." A girl says, knocking on the door.
The pair stop dancing and look at the door.
"I should go." Tewkesbury says, walking away from Lilli. "You will need a dance card."
"This isn't my first ball, Lord Tewkesbury." Lilli says quietly, so the girls outside don't hear.
"I know." Tewkesbury says, handing her a dance card.
He grabs the fan on the side doing a small sign with it.
"What does that mean?" Lilli asks.
"Maybe it's better you don't know just yet." Tewkesbury says.
Little did Tewkesbury know, Lilli actually knew what it meant.
