The holidays past, and the first couple of months of 2019 were mostly uneventful. In March, the kids had a week off from school, so Adam asked if he could take the kids. That meant that Rory had some much needed alone time. It was also good because it happened to be the week where she was testifying in court for Logan, so she didn't have to get a babysitter.
Rory was super nervous to testify. This was Logan's life. It was his son. She didn't want to accidentally say something she shouldn't. Regardless of nerves, she found herself sitting in a courtroom being questioned by an attorney.
"Ms Gilmore what is your connection to Mr Huntzberger?"
"We dated in college, but then we didn't speak for a long time" Rory said
"And how did you reconnect?"
"My son is friends with his" Rory told her "they're in the same school, in the same class"
"So you've spent a good about of time with Oliver, correct"
"Yes"
"Would you say that he's a happy child?"
"Very. Always smiling, always laughing, always making jokes"
"And would you say that he's well cared for? That Mr Huntzberger is a good father?"
"Yes" Rory said. "Without a doubt"
After asking a few more questions, Rory was done. A few more people were asked questions, and at some point Honor slid over to sit next to Rory.
"What's going on with you and my brother?" Honor whispered
"What do you mean?" Rory asked. She knew exactly what Honor meant.
"I mean, when did you get back together?"
"We're not. We're just friends"
"You have to see how hard that is to believe"
"Our kids are friends. That's it"
"Ok...but when you do eventually get together, I want to be the first to know" Honor said and moved away before Rory could say anything else. She knew that Rory didn't see it, and that Logan probably didn't either, but those two loved each other, and she would put money on them ending up together.
The trial took a few days, and the next day Rory offered to watch Oliver since she didn't need to be there.
"When is my dad coming back?" Oliver asked
"Not until later" Rory said. "I think you'll be asleep already when he gets here, but he'll be here when you wake up tomorrow morning"
"Promise?"
"I promise"
Once Oliver went to sleep, Rory pulled out her laptop to get a little work done. When Logan got home he didn't say anything for a moment. Rory just stood there, nervously waiting for him to speak. She was nervous for him, that he would lose his son. She cared about him, maybe she even had feelings for him, she didn't really know, but she did know that if he lost his kid, it would be devastating.
Logan took a deep breath. "Full custody. We'll work out some arrangement so that Elise can see Oliver, but I have custody. I get to make the decisions"
Rory let out a sigh of relief. "That's good. That's really good"
"Thank you, Rory. For everything. You've done a lot for me these past few months and I really appreciate it"
"Of course" Rory said.
Logan stood there, looking at Rory. If he didn't have feelings before the custody thing happened, he definitely did now. It wasn't gonna go away, he either had to tell her, or make a move and hope he doesn't screw up a good thing.
