Haejin's POV

Finals were only two months away, but I had found myself caught up in something far more distracting than studying.

Jeon Jungkook.

I didn't know when it started, but it was getting harder and harder to focus whenever he was around. It was difficult to look at the teacher when he was sitting right next to me. It was impossible to eat properly when he sat across from me. His voice—low and smooth—made my heart race in ways I didn't want.

But how was I supposed to act around him? What if he noticed?

What if time stopped for a moment, just long enough for me to do what I wanted—to kiss him with all the emotions I couldn't express?

But time wasn't stopping, and I wasn't confessing.

I had never done that before. What if he rejects me? What if he laughs?

After a fifteen-minute drive, I reached school. And there he was—already looking in my direction. My breath hitched. Feeling flustered, I quickly turned away and headed straight to class.

A few minutes later, Jungkook walked in and took his usual seat beside me. When I glanced up, he greeted me with the most beautiful smile I had ever seen. My heart skipped a beat. I managed to smile back.

My eyes drifted to his hands. His veins stood out in a way that made me feel warm all over. I quickly looked away, staring out the window, trying to compose myself.

I had always noticed his hands, but ever since I started liking him, something about them made my chest tighten. Hell, everything about him intimated me now.

In the middle of class, his pen suddenly fell to the ground. Without thinking, we both bent down at the same time to pick it up.

Our eyes met.

For a moment, time did stop.

Jungkook's POV

I tried an old trick—I "accidentally" dropped my pen.

She bent down to pick it up, just as I expected. But what caught me off guard was how close we suddenly were.

Her lips were soft pink and glossy, a hint of blush dusting her cheeks. And those doe eyes... her gaze made me want to keep her to myself.

I wouldn't lie—I was falling for her. I was surprised by the thought that I could fall for someone. For a long time, I kept denying all the thoughts and feelings, but now I can't even stop looking at her.

Haejin. The girl who had never entertained any guy's attention before was now looking at me with emotions she couldn't hide.

But it was all just a bet.

I blinked, snapping myself out of it.

My plan was working. She was falling for me. And with only one month left before graduation, I would finally confess. But can I truly?

With that, the time passed. Haejin started talking to Jungkook more often—her tone softer, her gaze shyer. Jungkook realized how easily flustered she got and how adorable she looked whenever she received a compliment.

With only a week left before exams, Haejin began skipping school to focus on her studies. But even then, she didn't stop going to the library.

Because she knew Jungkook would be there, waiting.

Three Days Before the Exam

As Haejin stared at her books, trying to absorb every last bit of information before the finals, her mind kept betraying her. Jungkook's smile, the way he laughed, the way his voice sent shivers down her spine—it was maddening.

How could she start feeling this way right before the most important exams of her life? Every moment spent thinking about him was a moment wasted, yet she couldn't help but cherish those moments.

Later in the evening, she decided to go to the library, hoping to see him. She waited outside for fifteen minutes, but there was no sign of him. Fifteen minutes turned into thirty, then an hour, yet he never showed up.

Disappointed, she returned home, pushing aside the unsettling feeling in her chest.

The Morning of the First Exam

Her brother drove her to school, and as they arrived at the gate, they spotted Jimin. He greeted both of them, and her brother smiled approvingly. He had always liked Jimin, believing him to be a good influence on Haejin.

After wishing each other luck, Haejin and Jimin walked inside together, heading to their respective exam rooms. Thankfully, Jungkook's room was different from hers, allowing her to focus during the exam.

After the exam, she and Jimin stepped out together and were greeted by Jungkook. They exchanged a few words, but the conversation felt brief and distant. Soon, her brother arrived to pick her up, and Jungkook and Jimin went their separate ways.

The rest of the week passed in a blur of studying, exams, eating, and falling asleep.

The Night Before the Last Exam

Haejin spent the entire day reviewing for her English exam. Once she was confident with her preparation, she decided to visit the library out of habit.

She didn't expect to see Jungkook there.

After weeks of avoiding her, he was finally standing in front of her.

As soon as she reached him, she stood frozen in shock. He had pulled her into a tight hug.

She stiffened in his arms. His warmth, his scent, everything about him felt familiar, yet completely foreign at the same time. The moment was overwhelming.

Then, in a quiet, almost monotone voice, he muttered, "I'm sorry."

Her heart pounded.

Sorry? For what?

The words lingered in the air, unanswered. She pulled back slightly, staring at him in confusion, but before she could ask, someone else approached.

Jimin.

His expression was unreadable, but there was something in his eyes—something she couldn't quite place.

She glanced at him questioningly and mouthed, What's wrong?

Jimin simply shook his head. Then, without saying a word, he grabbed Jungkook's wrist and pulled him toward the exit.

Haejin instinctively stepped forward to follow them, but Jimin turned back and gave her a single, firm shake of his head.

No.

She stopped in her tracks, watching them leave.

What was happening?
