Rose almost couldn't breathe, but instead of telling her mother to let go, she just hugged her back. It felt good to hold her in her arms. She had feared that she would never see her again. The fear had gripped her and wouldn't let go until they landed on Dragonstone.

"I didn't know," Rhaenyra assured her, her hand resting on the back of her head. "I would never have allowed it."

Rose nodded. "I know."

Rhaenyra let go to push Rose slightly away from her. She let her gaze slide down only to jump in shock when she saw the blood on her dress.

"You're hurt?" Rhaenyra screeched in fear, checking Rose for injuries, but Rose took her hands and shook her head.

"It's not my blood," she reassured her mother, or at least she tried to, because Rhaenyra seemed anything but reassured. She looked angrily at Daemon, who avoided her gaze.

"He shouldn't have done that."

"He was worried about you."

"That still doesn't give him the right to put you in danger."

Rose couldn't argue with that. But on the other hand, she understood Daemon's decision. They were at war and she had been with the enemy too long to be immediately labeled loyal. She now hoped that Daemon would no longer test her. Even though he assured her he wouldn't do it anymore, she was just as suspicious of him as he was of her.

She wondered whether Daemon really trusted her now or whether it was just another game he was playing to test her again at the next opportunity.

Rose didn't know how she could prove her loyalty even more. Today she had decided against the man she loved and for her mother. She didn't know if she could say she loved Rhaenyra more, probably not, but she loved her and Rose was not willing to give it up.
