AN: this is very much a taylor swift song inspired chapter. there's this is me trying, the alcott (the national ft taylor swift), and tolerate it. so. they will have some snid bits of lyrics in here because i'm just so nice like that!! there's also what's up danger and sunflower from the spiderman movie because. duh.
personally, i listened to those three songs the most while writing and continued listening to a specify one while writing it's designated scene. so. i can put where the song begins and ends for when i was writing :)
the playlist is officially out on my page. you guys should go check that out. right after this, i'll post what song belongs to what chapter/scene. (only to a certain extent! no spoilers)
okay. enough of this. read on :)
this wasn't really proofread. i'll do that later y'all.

Aru's POV
—Monday, May 15th—
Start: Tolerate It, Taylor Swift
Aiden

Hey.
I'm at the library if you want to come
study or anything.
I understand if not.
I'll be here until five.

Aru's thumbs hovered the keyboard, trying to think of any logical response. Screw logical. Any response. She could do that... right?

She'd already walked to the library minutes before. All that needed to be done now was for Aru to let Aiden know that she was just a couple yards away, hiding behind some bookshelves. But, her hands wouldn't move to do that; nor would her feet move to just walk to Aiden.

Aru pulled her eyes away from her phone and tucked it into her back pocket.

One peek around the corner couldn't hurt, right? Right...

Aru sucked in one last deep breath before turning and poking her head past the bookshelf so she could see where Aiden was seated.

She stared at his side profile, ignoring the way her sight began to become blurry as tears flooded her vision.

'Why am I crying?'

His head was down, looking at the table as he picked at the table too nervously.

I sit and watch you reading with your head low.

Her hands went up to her eyes and wiped away the tears that had formed.

'Pull it together.'

Before Aru knew it, she was putting one foot in front of another and beginning to walk toward Aiden.

He was tapping his fingers on the table and bouncing his leg under the table. He looked so... fragile.

I sit and watch you.

I notice everything you do or don't do.

She felt horrible. Had she caused this?

You're so much older and wiser and I...

But, then she found herself frozen; frozen in time, frozen in place. She couldn't tell if her heart was still beating or not.

Wait by the door like I'm just a kid.

A girl slung her purple bag down on the floor and pulled the chair out across from him.

Aru watched his head shoot up.
