William Afton's car pulled into the parking lot of the shared office space where he and Ace worked on various tech projects. His brow was furrowed in concern as he listened to Ace's voicemail once more before exiting the vehicle. "It's about Evan, and it's urgent," Ace had said. William felt a lump form in his throat.

He quickly walked into the building and found Ace, who was pacing around their joint office, scribbling something on a notepad. As soon as Ace saw him, he put the notepad down.

"Will, thanks for coming so quickly. Have a seat," Ace gestured to a chair across from his desk.

William sat down, his eyes searching Ace's face for clues. "Your message sounded urgent. What's going on? Is it Evan?"

Ace took a deep breath before launching into an explanation. "You remember the Malhare project we abandoned? Somehow, a subroutine from it made its way into the camera system at your house. I found it this morning. It's been emitting high-frequency sounds that could potentially cause... hallucinations, or nightmares."

William's face paled. "Nightmares? Like the ones Evan's been having?"

"Exactly," Ace nodded. "I've deleted the code and amped up the security. But the fact that it was there in the first place is troubling. Who could have put it there? And why?"

William clenched his fists. "Could it be an inside job? Someone we know?"

Ace leaned back in his chair, thoughtful. "It's hard to say. The encryption signature matched Malhare, so it's sophisticated work. Someone knew what they were doing."

"We need to get to the bottom of this," William asserted. "If someone is targeting our families, we need to find out who it is and stop them."

"I agree, and I think we should start by reviewing who had access to our old files and projects," Ace suggested. "For now, though, the malicious code is gone. I hope that means Evan will be free from those nightmares."

William sighed, feeling a mixture of relief and apprehension. "Thank you, Ace. I can't tell you how much it means to me that you're looking out for Evan."

"We're family, Will," Ace smiled gently. "We look out for each other."

As William drove home that day, he couldn't help but feel a strange combination of gratitude and dread. Grateful for a friend like Ace, but filled with dread about the mysterious circumstances that were suddenly surrounding their lives. The past, it seemed, was not done with them yet. And both men knew they had to prepare for whatever came next
