I should've known

Dinghys don't stay when you rock the boat

Overturn if you crack the mold

And I'm gasping, struggling to stay afloat

I should've known

In the waves of the sinking sun

When we built the boat for the first test run

Can't crank the speed or we'll come undone

Don't go too fast or you'll flood

And I tried to cling to every bit we had

In the lashing rain, driftwood the raft

As the lightning cracked, chilled with fright

Our sinking ship was a shadow in the night

But what if the waters were perfectly calm?

What if the capsize was only my fault?

I forgot the rules and stood up in the boat

Never would I notice how the sides wobbled far

If the waters were perfectly calm

And I curse your name but I'm to blame

Since I'm excited I forget to be tame

The wild roars shake my bones to my heart

And the water I swallow tastes bitter post-start

Don't know who the fuck said friendship was art

Even if we build a yacht right now

I'm still willing to bet it'll all fall down

Betting on an iceberg that was never there

Because I only processed it was never fair

In denial of what I'd done till there

And I nearly drown and I watch the war

Have I gone too far overboard?

Hair sticks to my face, rain mixing with tears

I know and I don't how I wound up here

And I watched all I worked for
