Once in a rainy winter
I had a dream
I don't remember
And my alarm clock rang

I had a dream
The day was new
My alarm clock rang
Stumbling in the dark

The day was new
My friend came to school crying
Stumbling in the dark
I don't know anything

My friend came to school crying
Too quiet to make sense
I don't know anything
How do I help?

Too quiet to make sense
Another friend had a panic attack
How do I help?
Just stand there and watch

Another friend had a panic attack
It happened yesterday and I didn't see
Just stand there and watch
Can't do anything

It happened yesterday and I didn't see
Passing through the hallway, my face came out wrong
Can't do anything
Just leave her alone

Passing through the hallway, my face came out wrong
Skies turn gray, it's clouds but I like to think it's weariness and age
Just leave her alone
The auditorium's filling up

Skies turn gray, it's clouds but I like to think it's weariness and age
He stands on the stage, pacing and saying
The auditorium's filling up
I can't hear anything

He stands on the stage, pacing and saying
She turns me away, yes, I can get the hint
I can't hear anything
I think she thinks I'm nosy

She turns me away, yes, I can get the hint
A rainy winter day starts like its name
I think she thinks I'm nosy
He is making me illogically angry

A rainy winter day starts like its name
Science speeds by and nobody can find her
He is making me illogically angry
A fleeting thought stays grounded and I fear she is gone

Science speeds by and nobody can find her
"Which class does she have next? I think she has Spanish"
A fleeting thought stays grounded and I fear she is gone
Can't look out the window, can't stop worrying

"Which class does she have next? I think she has Spanish"
Well, I have math and there's a quiz I can't focus
Can't look out the window, can't stop worrying
Head hurts and eyes down, paranoia on my back

Well, I have math and there's a quiz I can't focus
They say Friday's the best, but this one's the worst
Head hurts and eyes down, paranoia on my back
Have they found her yet? Have they found her yet?

They say Friday's the best, but this one's the worst
I finished early, bored time is a killer
Have they found her yet? Have they found her yet?
What do I do when the sky starts to flicker?

I finished early, bored time is a killer
As more people are done, the room fills with noise
What do I do when the sky starts to flicker?
It doesn't happen, but I can see it

As more people are done, the room fills with noise
Imagination is crazy
Nothing happens, but I can see what does
I need to stop

Imagination is crazy
Something's wrong with everybody
I need to stop
My friends are fighting

Something's wrong with everybody
One against one, one against two, one against three, one against the world
My friends are fighting
And I thought I was fine

One against one, one against two, one against three, one against the world
I don't remember
I thought I was fine
Once in a rainy winter

I wrote this about a year ago when I was having a particularly bad day at school. I swear, shit like this happens every time I make friends with someone. I'm so done with teenagers - that includes myself - being super melodramatic. I can't deal with it. Ugh. This is why I'm not making friends this year.

Vent aside, this style of poem is called a pantoum. Basically, the second and fourth lines of one stanza are the first and third lines of the next stanza. It doesn't have to be this long, it just turned out to be the length of the Mississippi because this was a rage pantoum lol. It can end at any point - the last stanza has the third line of the first stanza as the second line of the closing and first line of the entire thing is the last line of the poem too :)
