The next week was spent mostly the same. Except that everyone was checking on me all the time and nobody would leave me alone. Enoch even said,"If you do that again I'll have to harvest your organs. I don't want to. Yet."

I can't go anywhere without someone else, the bird made sure of it. I spend most of my time in the library with Millard. Horace has stopped trying to steal me away from him. I look over at Mill reading a thick book about something. He looks like he could be smoking a pipe. I'm sitting upside down on the couch near by reading fairy tales. Millard read me a few. His voice sounds so different when he reads. It's almost theatrical. It's hard to hide my emotions around everyone. Especially Millard. Ever since he saved my life I've felt more attached to him.

I shut my book and rolled backwards off the couch and onto the floor. I rolled over so I could stand up and walked over to put the book back on the high shelf. I was too short to reach it.

"Y/n, would you like some help?"

I don't need a man to save me. Again. "Nope, ugh, I got it, ouch!" The book fell straight on my head. Millard chuckled and closed his book. He got up and tried to put the book back while standing behind me. He didn't quite reach either so I tried to help him as well. Pushing the book into the bookcase did almost nothing.

"Mill, I don't think this is working. Ugh!"

"Oof! Wait no! We are so close!"

As I kept jumping to put the book back I could feel my skirt start to ride up against Millard but we were too focused on putting the book back to notice. I jumped one last time with an oof. I have no idea why but all of the children fell into large doorway to witness something highly suspicious. The younger ones gasped and the older ones smirked. Horace screamed,"I told you they were doing it in here!"

Oh shit. Y/n and I were just staring at everyone. I'm standing behind her, my hands on the bookshelf, her risen skirt against me. The awkwardness of us both jumping and groaning, struggling to put a book back. I could say 'it's not what it looks like' but no one would believe it. Especially not Horace. I dropped the book on y/n's head and sat down on the couch. She smoothed out the back of her skirt and picked up the book and quickly glared at me.

"What are you all staring at?" She crossed her arms.

"You doing it with Millard," Victor smirked. I felt that I turned bright red.

"She needed help putting a book back. It was a struggle," my attempt at a good explanation was foiled by Enoch who showed up out of nowhere.

"Then what was with the groans."

Y/n and I spoke at the same time,"that was struggling."

We quickly gave each other a look and most of the children left. She stormed out of the room and into the garden. I was on duty to watch her today so of course I ran after her, but that wasn't the only reason.

"Y/n! I want to, erm, apologize."

She sat down on a near by bench as I stood in front of her,"why? There is nothing to be sorry for."

"I-I want to apologize on behalf of the children. And for the embarrassment they caused. Even though it was kinda of our fault. But not yours! It was me because-"

She stood up and put a finger on my nose,"Shush."

I moved her finger over my mouth,"wrong spot."

She chuckled calmly and said," none of this is your fault. It was an accident. No need to blame yourself."

I wanted to kiss her. I wanted to kiss her so badly in that moment. But I can't. I know I can't.

At least now I know where his lips are. For future reference. He softly pushed my finger down and sat next to me on the bench. We just started talking. Talking about whatever. But eventually we got to talking about Hugh and Fiona.

"I swear on the library they makeout everyday after lunch in the sunroom behind the big bush."

I was laying on the floor of the library laughing so hard I thought my stomach would rupture. "Millard! You talking too loud! The sunroom is just behind that wall!"

Millard laid down next to me in a laughing fit. He almost knocked over a stack of books. I let out the worst screeching howl in the world. Olive suddenly comes running in with Horace and Victor,"Is everything okay? I heard screaming."

Mill and I looked at each other and just die. We are just dead of laughter. Horace and Victor take a step back from the door and Olive just stares in shock. I took me a minute to notice the chandelier glowing as bright as the sun. Millard stops laughing and stands up, taking a step back and stumbling. The main bulb breaks and a bolt of lightning slips around the room and I quickly catch it before it can hurt anyone. The three peculiars in the doorway drop their jaws to the floor.

"Darling, that was AMAZING!" Horace runs up to me and tries to hug me but I flinch slightly. I'm not used to hugs from people. I know that Millard hugged me but he's special to me. He saved my life. "Oh, do you not like hugs?"

I started to tense up a bit. I looked at Millard for reassurance. He nodded his head as if he meant,'go ahead when you feel ready'. I took a breath and said,"I'm not used to hugs or affection. I don't want to talk about it. But maybe later. For now my wounds are still fresh," I took his hand,"but this is okay for now."

His smiled widened more with everything I did. But it became more friendly and less 'Oh how I love thee so' and that sort of thing. Before I knew it I was being dragged out and into another room. Horace gathered everyone into the room. Even Enoch was standing in the door way with his arms crossed.

"Y/n. Can you show everyone your peculiarity? Please? I loved it!"

My initial thought: NO. I'm the center of attention. I hate it. I can't do it. I'm gonna die. Again.

Millard walks over to me and whispers something in my ear,"don't worry. Just focus on something."

He stands in the back towards Enoch and Victor. I think about him. Just Millard. All happy memories. The bulb in front of me starts to glow. I didn't notice it until just now. The bulb breaks and a bolt of lightning zips around the room breaking a small vase. I catch it mid air and form it into a ball in my hands. I start to dribble it on to the soft carpet and stomp on it to make the bolt disappear. Everyone was shocked. Enoch raised his eyebrows. The children were very excited and started saying a whole bunch of stuff but I drowned it out by just smiling at the person I thought of. Invisi-boy Millard.
