PETE

Pete was home. Not only he was literally there, but now he was also finally starting to feel that as well. He even dared to feel a little silly for worrying too much about this whole thing of meeting families and introducing Vegas to this part of him that was so private and protected; the part of him he loved the most. Now that he was seeing how much relaxed Vegas was looking while talking business with his grandpa and how effortlessly he would laugh every time the old man would tell him a joke, all the worries that Pete was having seemed silly. Sure, there were some weird out looks upon the two of them, but Pete couldn’t care less since the warm and gentle ones were bigger in number.

“So, you have a brother-in-law too, I suppose.” His grandma commented while Vegas was telling his grandpa about Macau and how excited they were to hear from the colleges he had applied to. “Is he as handsome as Vegas?”

Pete rolled his eyes and smiled at his grandma.

“Macau is very sweet, to be honest.” He told. “I mean, he is very much alike Vegas in what comes to appearance, but he has this sweet aura around him that makes his beauty a little different from Vegas’s.”

“Then, why didn’t he come too?”

“Well... Vegas and I wanted to take some time together as a couple before...” Pete stopped himself. He didn’t quite know why, but he wasn’t ready to talk about the baby to anyone yet. It wasn’t like he was fearing his grandma’s reaction, but it just didn’t feel like it was an appropriate time to do that just yet. “Before we have a lot in our plate with the hotel an everything...”

His grandma, the person who knew Pete the most, seemed a little intrigued by his sudden change in tone, but as much as she knew him a lot, she also respected his privacy the most; so, if there was something that Pete didn’t want to talk about in that moment, she would patiently wait until he was properly ready to tell her about it.

“I understand.” She said kindly. “But if you guys have some spare time in the future, please don’t hesitate in bringing him as well. I want to meet him to.”

“Sure, next time I’ll ask him to tag along.” Pete agreed, stopping casually to take a sip from his water. “Grandma, speaking of bringing people...” Pete started, suddenly remembering about something quite important. “I thought that lovely boy you told me about, Nanthapanic, would be here today. I was looking forward to meet him, since you and Porsche talked so good of him...”

“Oh... I invited him and his mother here today, but I guess they couldn’t come.” His grandma explained. “To be honest, I wasn’t expecting them to come anyways...”

“Why?” Pete asked curiously.

“Well, despite him being an amazing person, the whole family is pretty much secluded inside their own house. Nanthapanic just leaves to work and to buy food once in a while.” His grandma got closer to Pete, like she always did whenever she had something interesting to talk about. “Actually, just between us here, I think that family has some past. They look like... like they’re always looking behind them...?”

Pete frowned, but before he could even say something else to her, a loud voice called out his name, making everyone in the table – including Vegas, who was pretty much engaged in a conversation with Pete’s grandpa – turn around to face the owner of that voice. As soon as Pete’s eyes met the eyes of the tall and apparently now blond woman who was calling him, his heart almost sunk inside his chest. Like a reflex movement, Pete immediately placed one of his hands on Vegas’s thigh, which made his fiancée look at him with a puzzled expression.

“I thought you guys wouldn’t arrive on time!” His grandma greeted her while getting up from her seat and walking towards the newly guests. “Have you guys eaten already? Because we have plenty of food here...”
