VEGAS
Vegas woke up with the sunlight getting inside the room through the curtain’s small crevices, hanging by the window. The soft, golden rays of sun filled the room with a cozy and familiar vibe, the type that makes you want to stay in bed for a little bit longer. Pete’s grandparents’ house was considerably close to the beach, which made the sound of waves breaking on the shore heard, a little far away, but still audible. With a groan, Vegas stretched his lazy body that was on top of the soft mattress, slowly sticking out his arm to reach for Pete, who was laying by his side the night before. But as soon as his arm hit the empty side of the bed, Vegas opened his eyes, even if a little bit reluctant on doing it so.
Pete was gone, probably already awake somewhere else inside the house. Carefully, Vegas sat on the bed and rubbed his eyes like in a try to make the sleepiness go away. He couldn’t remember the exact moment when he finally fell asleep; with the trip, the party, the late-night dinner and Pete wanting to stop by the grocery store to buy some supplies, once they hit home again, Vegas wasn’t feeling anything but pure exhaustion deep inside his bones. At first, while Pete was in the bathroom changing into his pajamas, Vegas quickly fetched the thick quilt on top of Pete’s bed and covered the ground with it, making an improvised bed on the floor for him. Despite him wanting nothing more than just sleep with his fiancée, he recognized that two tall and grown-up men sleeping together in a twin sized bed would be at least very uncomfortable; especially if he considered the fact that Pete was pregnant.
“Babe.” Pete called him in the middle of the night; his voice sounded tired, but firm at the same time. “Are you awake?”
Vegas’s mind was in a state of almost asleep, which was interrupted by Pete’s voice. Since he found out that Pete was pregnant, Vegas realized that his sleep – that was already very light before – was even more light now; every rustle, every little tiny noise Pete would make was already enough to turn Vegas into his awake mode. In one hand, this new trait was very useful every time Pete would wake up in the middle of the night with his legs cramping, but aside from that, it was a slightly annoying thing that kept Vegas away from a good night of sleep.
Not that he cared that much about it though.
“Now I am.” Vegas said while opening his eyes, only to meet the deep darkness that filled the room. “Is your leg cramping again? Are you thirsty?”
“Nope.” Pete said. “It’s just... I can’t sleep knowing that you’re on the floor and not here in bed with me.”
Vegas smiled at that sentence.
“I thought I had convinced you to let me sleep here, since it wouldn’t be comfortable for you if both of us share a bed that it’s made for a single person to sleep in.”
“I know...” Pete’s voice sounded like a gentle plea. “Well, it’s your fault, actually.”
“How so?” Vegas asked, doing his best to not laugh.
“You were the one who made me used to always sleep with someone by my side.” Vegas could almost hear the pout starting to form on Pete’s lips. “Now you need to take the responsibility for it.”
“You won’t be able to sleep alone there, huh?”
“You know I won’t.”
Vegas took a deep breath and quickly stood up, resting one of his knees on the bed mattress like it was a sign for Pete to move away a little bit to make some space for him in that cramped up space. Everything he heard was the rustling on the sheets as Pete moved until he was laid on his right side, facing the wall. Gently, Vegas climbed into bed beside his fiancée, wrapping his left arm around Pete’s waist and pulling him closer until they were in a perfect cuddling position; his hand resting on top of Pete’s bump.
