Vinnie's P.O.V

Shakingly, I pulled out my phone, fumbling with the buttons as I dialled 911. During the conversation with the emergency operator, I was unable to form coherent sentences due to my trembling state of mind. The words that came out of my mouth were jumbled together, making it difficult for the operator to understand.

"I—I had to defend myself. I used a gun, and I... he was going to kill my boyfriend," I stammered into the phone, my voice a mixture of fear and desperation.

With the confirmation that the police was on their way sent my heart racing. I felt the panic begin to overwhelm me, a feeling that I knew all too well. My body tensed up and my breathing became laboured.

I felt my grip tighten on the counter as I tried to hold myself together. This was a feeling I had experienced before, a feeling that I despised. I felt like I had no control over myself and my body. The warmth of Leo's embrace as he spoke softly in my ear, providing me with comfort as I slowly rotated to look into his eyes. His loving embrace welcomed me, and I accepted it without hesitation.

The piercing wail of sirens echoed in the air, signalled the cops arrival. We stared at the body in silence, our minds spinning with guilt and regret. Despite the heaviness of the situation, I was overcome with a feeling of relief that we had made it out alive, but at what cost?

I stepped away from the comforting arms of my partner as a loud knock echoed around the room. I knew it was now or never. With reluctance, I made my way to the door. When I opened it, two officers stood before me, their faces stern and unwavering. I gestured for them to follow me, and guided them through the darkness to the room where the crime had occurred.

A single tear trickled down my cheek as I spoke, my voice shaking. "I didn't mean to do it... He was going to hurt my boyfriend; I had no other choice."

The cop whipped out a small notebook, "I need some information from you before I can take your statement. Could you please tell me your name and date of birth?"

"My name is Vinnie, and my date of birth is September 1st, 2020."

"Now, start from the beginning," he instructed.

As I recounted the events, their faces remained blank and emotionless, as if they experienced this kind of situation on a daily basis. When I had finished my story, the other officer radioed for an ambulance to come and take away the injured man and requested for backup to secure the crime scene.

The paramedics arrived with the requested backup, pushing the gurney which held the man out of the house. Simultaneously, other officers arrived to ensure the safety of the area.

The female officer took a moment before speaking, "Vinnie, based on what you've told me, it sounds like you acted in self-defence. We'll conduct a thorough investigation, but you still have to come down to the station."

My focus shifted to Leo, who was standing near the sink, and I asked, "Yes, that's fine. Can I say goodbye to him before I leave?"

She gave a slight nod of affirmation and said that they would be waiting outside. I shifted my focus back to Leonardo, who was still distressed, as I was. I gently took his hands into my own.

"I don't want to lose you, Vinnie. This is all on me. I should've...I don't even know why...," he babbled.

We shared a passionate kiss, our bodies intertwined in a comforting embrace. I pulled away and ran my hand along his face, looking into his eyes with reassurance. Despite the fact I was going to be confined alone in a lonely jail cell, I had this moment of comfort to keep me going. "Everything will be alright. I promise you I will be back in no time." I planted another kiss on his lips before we walked out together.
