Blair's P.O.V

"Don't stop until I tell you to! Keep going... Keep going... Keep going... That's it... Now, STOP!"

My housekeeper held the bottle, awaiting my next command. His trepidation was palpable. "You can go." Raising my glass to celebrate my own personal happy hour.

My Mac beeped with an incoming call from Chadwick Walker. Adjusting in my seat, I placed my glass down and pressed accept. His scruffy beard filled the screen first, then his award-winning smile.

"Well, well, well, look what the cat dragged in," I said.

He flashed a wide, mischievous smile at me that revealed his fake, pearly white teeth. "You're looking gorgeous as always."

"Thank you, Walker. What made you call so early?"

"How's the bet going? Do you remember the stakes?" he declared with a devilish glint in his eye.

"Ugh, what a dumb question. If that's why you called, I'm hanging up!" My life had become dull prior to making the bet; I was only searching for my father and having tedious conversations with those who owed me money. There was only so much a woman can take. However, I now had a purpose in life.

His face lit up with a satisfied smile as he continued, "I am on the cusp of victory."

"Oh, really? Spill!" I begged, my mouth twisting into a smirk of my own. But the only answer I got was a smug grin.

"Two words. It's a surprise."

I shook my head at his mistake, "That's three words. Come on, just one hint. Please?" I pouted, trying to get him to budge, but he didn't.

"Can't," he answered in a sharp tone. "Need I remind you, when the time comes, I expect you to keep your word." he continued.

"Don't fret, Walker," I purred, oozing with sarcasm. "I'm dying to see the ingenious ideas you've got in store."

"Believe me. . . I have a trick up my sleeve." His attitude seemed to ooze with arrogance and conceit, making me doubt his intentions. Not only did he fail to appear reliable, but he also wasn't a person of integrity. You may be wondering why I was engaging in business with this man. Those who are wise know the repercussions and steer clear of dealing with me.

I narrowed my eyes at him and warned, "No cheating. Or else the deal is off."

His laughter filled the room, "Me, cheat? Never! Why would I ever do a thing like that?"

I shot back, "Hmm, let's see here, you owe me twenty thousand bucks that you haven't been able to pay back, and this dumb bet is gonna decide your future. So, forgive me if I'm a little sceptical."

He shrugged, "All's fair in love and war, Blair-bear."

I glared at him, "Don't ever call me that again," and threatened, "If that's the case, let's just forget about it. So, I can be your boss."

He shook his head, "No, no, no, we can't. I'm looking forward to seeing you in a maid dress. You'll look ravishing."

I cackled, "Not a chance, Walker!"

I made sure to hang up before he could even think about talking back. Just my luck, Quinton sauntered into the room.

"Hey there, Blair-bear, who were you just talking to?" he said, wrapping his arms around me from behind.

"Oh, just a construction worker. Nothing new."

"Do you have time for breakfast?" he asked.

"You bet I do," I said, shutting my Mac and standing up. Twining our arms, we made for the door.
