Isabela mae.
There was something so exhilarating about walking into a luxury one bed cabin in the countryside. Especially with the man you'd just had your first time with.
It felt different around him now, he was so tentative. I wasn't sure if it was the air in this place, or the fact that I just slept with him.
I will admit that the cabin felt amazing. It felt like the perfect detox location. There was a lake nearby also. It felt so calming.
"Who brought our stuff here?" I asked. I looked at the three suitcases by the couch.
Lucas clicked on the news. Of course the headliner was the robbery that just occurred three hours ago. "Don't know. Harry probably." He watched, disgusted by the interview with the police officer who said that he nearly had us. "Bullshit." Lucas hissed. "He's the dick who caused the other two cars to crash." He tossed the remote on the couch. "Probably will be sued for damages he did to civilian cars."
I stood still watching the tv. I waited for them to talk about a new murder or robbery with the same swan mark. But they didn't. A flash of hope shot through me. Hope that maybe it was over, maybe the swans were over.
"You alright?" Lucas asked.
"Yeah," I nodded.
"Ok.." he looked at me, "why're you glued to that spot then?"
I moved over to the couch, sitting down gently. Lucas moved over to the suitcases. I watched the moon flash through the clouds out the window.
I couldn't help but ask, "why haven't we had anything happen with the swans?"
He looked up at me. His jaw clenched, his eyes flickering around in thought. "Probably laying low since we got Robin."
I nodded slowly. "Yeah.." I said. "Probably."
It felt weird here with him. It felt strange that I just slept with him in the back of a car. It felt extra strange that I'd actually be marrying him soon. For some reason that hadn't quite hit me yet.
"So you like missions then?" He asked. He lent against the counter in the small kitchen, arms folded.
"Yeah they're fun,"
"Dangerous," he looked down his face at me.
"Yeah..."
"Guess that's part of its appeal." He turned around to the backpack he'd tossed on the counter when he got in. "How about I make it more official." He said, pulling a file out. "We need a new driver, that can be you."
He flipped in open and gestured with his fingers for me to come toward him. I did and saw a little contract. Emphasis on little. "You need me to sign?"
"It's nothing binding seeing as your practically my wife," he handed me a pen.
I felt my stomach flip and my face flushed as he called me his wife. I didn't realise I liked the idea that much.
"Ok." I signed the dotted line.
"Great." He said. "You gotta know I'll be wrapping you in bubble wrap everytimeyou go on missions," I giggled, turning to him. He kept his arms folded, his biceps bulging in the tight fitted tshirt.
"I bet you will," I smirked.
"Let me show you something," he said. I followed him up the stairs into a bedroom.
The roof was windows. "Don't worry," he said, "it's one way glass,"
You could see the rain running down the roof. The moon through the trees, peaking through he clouds. "This place is perfect."
"I know right," he breathed. "You should see it when it snows," he smiled.
"Snows?" I asked, turning to him, "you come here often?"
"Yeah, when I need to think." He replied.
I nodded watching the rain again. "Guess you weren't expecting me to join you then?" I chuckled lightly.
"No.. but I'm not complaining," he said lowly. I watched him. "It's different here. The air is different. It's all... easier." He breathed sitting on the foot of the bed. "Every problem, every worry, every argument, just disappears."
"Yeah." I sat next to him. We sat silently for a moment. "Lucas," I said.
"Yeah?"
"We're getting married." I said.
"Yeah.."
"It's only just hit me,"
"Well, it probably hasn't felt real," he whispered.
"No, it hasn't," I stopped myself from saying anything stupid.
"I really wanna try and give you a good life. Luck told me that I should distance myself to do that, because it's all so strange for you. And if that's the case I will. But this is how it has to be. We have to get married, and I'm sorry for that." He turned his body toward me. "I can live in a separate house and we can have fake kids or something, so you can live a comfortable life. But it'll keep others happy."
"No," I said. "If I'm marrying you, I wanna do it for real. I wanna live with you and have the whole until parted by death stuff with you."
"Ok," he smiled. He leant in carefully and planted a soft kiss on my lips. "Until parted by death," he chuckled. "I'm gonna make us dinner."
"I'll help-"
"No, you did some sick ass driving, you need to rest," he laughed, pointing at me, "fast and furious shit,"
I laughed. I lay back on the bed and watched the rain pattering on the window. I felt my worries disappear. Just like Lucas said. Maybe the swans have piped down, maybe they are laying low. Maybe we're safe. For now. And I'm ok with that.
