CHAPTER FIVE
YOU AND ROBBY?!
≪ ◦ ❖ ◦ ≫

THE FIRST THING MERCY DOES WHEN SHE GETS HOME IS TAKING HER SHOES OFF.

"I'm home," she yells down the long hallway towards the kitchen where the delicious smell is coming from.

Usually her parents work late, but today seems to have been a slow day, not many clients that needed a new house, so now, Diego and Isabella are home.

And like always, no matter how late it is actually, Diego's in the kitchen cooking.

Because nobody bothers to answer her, Mercy goes into the kitchen. She wipes the nervous sweat from her hands off on her pants.

"Oh, hey, you're right in time for your favorite dinner," her father greets her before he turns around to the stove again, humming some song Mercy doesn't know.

"Hey," she greets back and sits down on her chair across from her mother. The woman smiles at her daughter.

"How was your day, Meches?"

The thing is, Mercy's full name is Mercedes, but nobody calls her that, at least not anymore. Her family calls her Meches and everyone else just Mercy.

She got compared to the car brand too many times in her life already (and it's not even pronounced in the same way).

She breathes in and returns her mother's smile. Now is the time to tell her parents the biggest lie she's ever told them. No pressure.

"Good, I was at the dojo with my," she breathes in again, "boyfriend."

Her heart is racing, waiting for a reaction from her parents. She hasn't even been this nervous before last year's All Valley (not that she fought in it, but she had been pretty nervous).

The seconds that pass feel like an eternity to her and she's wondering if her parents can see the panic radiating from her.

But all her mother does is smile at her widely. Her father on the other hand turns around in confusion.

"Oh, so you've been talking to a boy?" Isabella questions her. There is probably nothing that she loves more than love.

Mercy almost feels bad that she's lying to them.

But it won't be for long, a few weeks, maybe a month, she thinks.

She nods again, glad that her mother is so interested in the story. She can imagine her later calling her mother, Mercy's grandma, and telling her all about her daughter's new boyfriend. She is like that.

"Who is he? When do we get to meet him?" Isabella is full of excitement and turns around to her husband to see whether he shares the excitement with her or not. But Diego continues to furrow his brows.
