CHAPTER FIFTEEN
YOU STILL WANT HIM BACK?
≪ ◦ ❖ ◦ ≫

KYLER PICKED THEM UP EARLIER, HIS MUSIC AS LOUD AS USUAL AND MERCY DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER TRYING TO SPEAK OVER IT.

This is just Kyler's thing: driving recklessly with deafening music. It's a miracle they made it to the drive in cinema in one piece.

It's the five of them in his car, Kyler, Edwin, Tory, Robby, and Mercy. And although she's sitting in the middle backseat and therefore has a good view of the screen, she can't really enjoy the movie.

Maybe because she's just not that type of person to enjoy action movies or maybe it's because they've been at the dojo all morning, so now she's not in the mood for martial arts.

Whatever it is, it annoys her.

At least Robby next to her doesn't annoy her. She doesn't even mind him leaning closer to her just so he can see better, although she really values her personal space.

Kyler and Edwin keep laughing at every scene, maybe that is what annoys her.

"Hey, I'm feeling this movie, man. This Jean-Claude Van...Damn!" Kyler lets out a scream as the man in the movie gets hit in the balls.

"Right in the nuts!" He comments for those who didn't pay attention. The laugh he lets out after that doesn't sound healthy, in fact, she thinks that he might suffocate from that. Even Edwin can't keep it together, he grabs the grab handle and shakes with laughter.

She turns her head around to Tory next to her, to exchange glances, but her best friend is looking out the window, not even paying attention.

Robby notices too because he asks her,
"Not into the movie?"

"Oh, it's fine. I just had a shitty day," she replies, now looking at the two again.

"Shit, you wanna talk about it later?" Mercy asks her, her eyebrows furrowed in worry.

Tory smiles at her friend.
"Maybe."

The other girl nods at that. She knows that Tory doesn't really like talking about her problems, just like she doesn't. But from time to time, the blonde comes around to telling her about everything that worries her in her life.

Isn't that what friends are for? To share good and bad times?

"Hey, yo, bitch boy."

Mercy turns around again at the sound of Kyler's voice. (Un)Fortunately, he didn't suffocate from his laughter and is now back to being his usual douchy self.

Kenny just finished delivering snacks to Red's car next to them when Kyler's attention fell on him. Knowing what's about to happen, Robby and Mercy exchange a glance.

"What about mine?" He asks him.

"You said you didn't want anything," Kenny replies. He's standing next to Kyler's window now.

"Well, I want something now. Get me two buckets of popcorn with butter, four large cokes, two hot dogs with mustard, no ketchup, and a pretzel." The older boy smiles innocently at the boy.

Robby shakes his head and Mercy can't help herself but sigh. Why is Kyler like that?

No, why is Kyler?

"But I can't carry—" Kenny wants to object, but then Kyler interrupts him again.

"Oh, and some nachos with extra cheese and jalapeño poppers, alright?"
