CHAPTER SEVEN
FIRST DAYS ARE ALWAYS HARD
≪ ◦ ❖ ◦ ≫

SHE DIDN'T MANAGE TO FIX HER BROKEN SLEEP RHYTHM OVER WINTER BREAK.

Now it's time to pay the price for that. The first lesson of the day, AP Physics, with two hours of sleep just two hours before her alarm rang.

But she's used to that, her sleep rhythm has always been a little... funky? Taking naps that lasted hours, sleeping whenever she's tired... yeah, that's not her first AP Physics lesson with only a couple of hours of sleep.

The difference today is that's the first day back after Winter Break. The first day seeing her old best friend Hawk.

The hair is hard to miss, so she catches the eyes of the boy the second she enters the room. The chair besides him is empty because, you guessed it, it's her chair.

Almost stomping her way to the last row, her anger rises with every second. How could he do that to her? Just leave her there?

"Don't even talk to me," she hisses as she got to her seat. There are many things on her mind right now, they have been for the last couple of days, so thinking about her friend betraying her and running off to their enemies hasn't been a priority.

Or maybe Mercy just didn't want to think about that.

Because truthfully, she is hurt. Hawk and her have been friends since the summer before sophomore year, back when he was Eli and at the hip attached to Demetri. Back when there were these nasty rumors about her.

They had started it all together. She has been the one to convince him to give Cobra Kai another try. He has been the one sitting next to her, holding her hand, while she got the snake tattoo.

Now she doesn't even want to look into his eyes.

She's afraid that, if she looked into his eyes, she would see Eli, the shy boy who cried to her about his bullying.

"How could you?" He spats back and she can see out of the corner of her eyes that he is looking at her.

She ignores him and instead searches her backpack for her textbook. It's huge and heavy, so not really easy to miss, but she takes her time before she pulls it out and places it on the table in front of her.

"You dating him? After everything he's done? That's just low," he continues.

Patience isn't really a thing that's taught at Cobra Kai, so she whips her head around to him. It takes a second for her brain to register that this accusation is actually good news.
