CHAPTER FOURTEEN
SILVER
≪ ◦ ❖ ◦ ≫

MERCY HAS BEEN STRETCHING WHEN KYLER CAME OVER TO THEM.

Robby, Tory, and her stand in a triangle, talking about the upcoming lesson and Kyler flashes a grin at them.

That particular grin lets the girl know that he has something to tell that'll either annoy her beyond repair or that'll make her roll her eyes so badly they stay backwards.

God, she fears the moment he'll open his mouth and actually start talking.

"Yo, guys," he says as he stops in front of the three. "My boy Rory, he got some free tickets to the drive-in tonight. I think they're going old school, something called Bloodsport?"

It's actually not that bad. No eye roll, no annoyance building up in her stomach. Just a fun invitation to the drive-in.

"I know that movie," Robby tells them and Mercy looks at him curiously. She does not know the movie, never heard of it either.

"My dad left an old VHS at our place. For a while it was the only evidence I had that he existed."

He's calm, making a statement like that. Acting like it's normal to have a father who never really cared. Mercy feels bad and she's sure that he's not as indifferent as he pretends to be.

But she doesn't say anything, she only tilts her head slightly and as his eyes meet hers again, she looks back at Kyler.

"I heard it's dope. So, if you guys are in, let's do this." He claps in his hands.

"Sure, why not?" Mercy agrees, now standing straight again.

"Depends on how late I have to work tonight. My new boss put me on the schedule for today. Guy's a total creep," Tory says, although her voice gets quieter at the last sentence.

"You got a new job? Where?" Robby asks at the same moment Mercy wanted to.

Tory hasn't told her yet, but the look on her face tells her everything she needs to know.

"It's none of your business," she snaps.

"Okay," he gives back, his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

Mercy leans a little closer and nudges her best friend's shoulder.
"Should I come? Tell everyone how good of an employee you are? Like I did at the sushi place? Or threaten your boss so he'll treat you good?"

Tory smiles softly, but shakes her head.
"No, it's fine."

The door opens and Kenny walks into the dojo, the enthusiasm that was plastered on his face the whole week is gone now.

"Look who made it," Robby says with a smile, but immediately notices the grim mood surrounding the young boy.

"What's up?" He asks him.

Kenny breathes in deeply and looks from Robby to Mercy. Her eyes are full of concern. She doesn't know what it is but she just can't stand to see that little guy being sad, it hurts her.

"I was at the high school yesterday and these older kids started messing with me," he tells them, "this one guy told me I should quit Cobra Kai."

"Who was he?" Robby stays calm again, but Mercy is sure that he's already having someone in his mind, just like she does.

"I don't know. He had this spiky red hair."

Kyler lets out a scoff and Mercy closes her eyes for a second. Of course, Hawk would act all high and mighty and above them, but then would mess with a boy three years younger than him.
