CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
NO MORE HAWK
≪ ◦ ❖ ◦ ≫

MERCY HAS NEVER HAD A LIKE FOR THE COLOR PURPLE.

Her favorite color's teal, always has and probably always will be. It reminds her of the ocean back in the Dominican Republic, it feels like childhood.

But now, seeing Hawk with a new hair color, she remembers something.

She sends him a mean glare, although he ignores her like usual when he sits down on his seat next to her.

Ms. Wong isn't here yet, so she pulls out her phone and types a quick message to Robby.

I know what we're gonna do

Mercy tried to like the color purple once she figured out that it's Miguel's favorite. But it didn't work, she doesn't mind looking at the variations of the color, but none of them make her feel good.

It's weird to explain, but a voice in her mind seemed to whisper nope every time she looked at something purple and tried to really, really like it.

Hawk's new hair for example. The blue and red were much better in her opinion and obviously he didn't ask her about what she thinks (his hair would have a different color then).

She's giddy throughout the whole school day, even during lunch she can't really sit still and keeps wobbling her legs, which annoys Edwin next to her.

"What's wrong with you today?" He asks her over another one of Kyler's lame jokes.

School would be so much easier if Robby and Tory were here instead of these three idiots.

Although, Edwin and Red never did anything to hurt her. They never backstabbed her like someone else has. So, maybe she should stop the complaining.

"I'm nervous," she simply tells him.

"Yo, Mercy. You and Keene got an idea?" Kyler practically yells across the table.

How many times does she have to tell him to keep his fucking voice down?

"Dude, shut up." She leans slightly over the table while pushing her tray back. She doesn't want her hair hanging in her food after all.

"I've thought about something and told Robby. He's on board, we only need to discuss the details," she tells the three of them with a hushed voice.

Their enemies are sitting only a few tables over and although it's quite loud in their cafeteria, she doesn't want to risk anything.

"So, that's what you're nervous about?" Edwin raises his eyebrows at her.

Mercy turns her head slowly around to him, a look of disbelief in her slightly squinted eyes.
"Try plotting revenge, then you get to talk."

"But the senseis said that we aren't allowed to fight anymore." Red looks from her to the two boys.

"We're not fighting, trust me. There are more ways to get back at them than just fighting." She nods at her words.
