LACY FELT WEIRD ABOUT LIVING AT HER OWN PLACE, a small apartment that fit just enough for one person. it was a little gift from her parents who were proud of her finding a job at tulsa tribune as a secretary, she aimed for tulsa world but she felt like she needed mire time to determine what she was going for.

her apartment filled with funky colors — a orange velvet couch, a bright green scenery surrounding the place, and a bathroom decorated with blue ribbon bows painted on the walls. she thought it was strange that the bathroom didn't match the rest of the apartment but she was always an indecisive woman and knew she'd be changing up the place sooner or later.

she hears three knocks at the door, thinking it'd be wesley's drunk ass coming in but didn't really expect to see the big surprise. lacy opens the door with a stern face, dressed in her blue striped shorts and white laced tank top, she is met with a bunch of shouting from a group of guys.

dallas winston and his goons.

"heard ya came back!" two-bit exclaimed as he shoves his way through the door.

"yes, welcome in!" lacy sarcastically offers, "but since he's in here, you guys can come in too."

ponyboy curtis and johnny cade's eyes wandered all over the place, two-bit jumped right onto the couch and snatched the remote from the coffee table, dallas was busy looking into the fridge.

the last to follow was sodapop who just gave lacy a little grin before shutting the door for her.

"how'd you guys find out where i lived?" lacy giggles as she hops on the kitchen island.

"wesley couldn't keep her mouth shut, told us we just had to come." ponyboy explained, "but anyways, how was college?"

"stressful but i made it and now i'm a secretary at tulsa tribune, started about three days ago." she shrugs.

dallas smirked, "secretary huh, have you heard what they do to female secretaries especially the ones like you?"

lacy rolls her eyes, "it ain't gonna happen, place is boring and full of quiet people."

"yeah but the bosses, man, they ain't too quiet when they got you alone in their office." dallas shakes his head.

sodapop intervened, "cut it out dal, you're gonna freak her out."

"whatever, where's steve and darry?" she asks, changing the subject.

"you haven't heard? darry's out with his fiancée, meghan and steve's out and about with evie." two-bit says.

lacy's jaw dropped, darry is engaged?

"engaged, since when?!"

"as of two months ago, actually started dating when you left for college." two-bit explains nonchalantly.

"geez, what else have i missed out on?" she scoffed.

"pony got accepted into georgetown." johnny spoke.

lacy smiled, "oh pony, that's great! congratulations by the way."

"thanks, i'm leaving this august." ponyboy says in disappointment.

"got a full ride because of track so i'm good."

"told you track was gonna pay off." lacy reminded him, patting his back.

they all had a fun chat about things lacy had missed out on after leaving for 4 years, she felt sick every time someone brought up sodapop's recent attempts at trying to find someone to date, he was still everything to her even after he hurt her.

sodapop just made a few small talks about how the dx was going after he was made manager, lacy was proud that his life started going up. she wished she hadn't left her hometown for college that was so far, she felt bad that she had to miss out on all of these good moments.

lacy cleaned up the plates that the guys had left all over the coffee table as they watched the recaps of the nfl games, she was surprised that they moved from mickey mouse to football, something that took too long to happen.

"i hate to say this but i need you guys to go, i got to clean up your dishes and i have work tomorrow." lacy frowned.

"no worries, lace, we'll be out of your hair." two-bit shrugged, "i guess we're gonna watch the game at pony's!"

"he's close to 30 and you're already killing him." ponyboy rolled his eyes as he followed his friends out the door.

sodapop still stayed, his fingers dug into the front pockets of his jeans.

"you want me to clean those for you?" he asks.

"soda, it's fine, don't worry about-"

"you got stuff on your hands, let me take care of those and just go rest yourself." sodapop suggests.

lacy sighs but keeps a smile on her face, "thank you, soda."

he hummed as he took over the sponge and water. lacy plopped onto the couch, laying peacefully as she turned on the tv to watch the flintstones for a good laugh. her eyelids fought against her to stay up.

by the time sodapop was finished with the dishes, he wiped the counters for her. as he got to the island, he caught a glimpse of her dead asleep. he finished wiping then walked over to her.

he carefully picked her up in his arms, making his way to her bedroom without hitting her head on the door. sodapop gently places her on her bed before putting a blanket over her.

he looked at her one last time before leaving the apartment, turning off the lights on his way out.
