𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒈𝒓𝒖𝒅𝒈𝒆.RAYMOND DIDN'T COME TO WORK BUT LEFT LACY IN CHARGE OF HIS CALLS, this was expected after having more work being given to her ever since the incident occurred. lacy had to work overtime just to complete all of the reports she had to read over.
lacy also didn't have anyone co-workers to socialize with, most of them were all in their 30's with spouses and children on their backs, lacy was just a fresh out of college secretary who was just seen as the boss' play toy.
the phone constantly rang all through out the day, and when it didn't—the sound would still play in her head.
another thing she was stressed out about was that she had no car to drive in after having to bring it to the dx for a fix to repair her muffler. lacy was told that she wouldn't be able to pick up until the next morning, meaning she was left to use the bus.
lacy didn't mind using the bus but she felt like a little kid again, having to find a seat with someone who was willing to sit next to her on a bumpy ride and a driver who loved cigarettes on the job.
she lived off of a headache that was about to turn into a migraine if she didn't leave her desk to cool off. however, she was relieved to see the clock and the striking to the time she gets off, 9:30.
lacy gathered all of her papers and put them on her desk. she grabbed her purse and left the room, walking with a rapid pulse through a dark office and to the elevator. the music was just static jazz music that creeped the hell out of her.
her eyes looked up at the red light that dinged. lacy looks through her purse for her keys.
"have a good night laurie." lacy says to the receptionist.
"you too, lace."she returns.
lacy was met with her car parked in the parking lot, she was shocked at first until she saw sodapop in the driver seat.
"soda, what are you doing with my car?" lacy giggles as she gets into the passenger side.
"figured i stay in the shop for a little while and got your car all fixed up." sodapop shrugs as he puts the car back into drive.
lacy just smiles at him as he drives off, she couldn't help but fall in love with him again.
as the ride goes smoothly with a few different topics of discussion, lacy mentions raymond not being there. it got sodapop to remember the morning lacy said something about raymond but took off.
"apparently he had an emergency with his pregnant wife." lacy chuckles.
sodapop wanted to say something about raymond but they'd end up fighting in the end.
"hey, you mind if i hangout at your place for a little? ponyboy wants me to help him with packing." lacy asks.
"yeah no problem." sodapop accepts.
they get to the curtis', lacy gets out of the car but waits for sodapop to catch up. they walk up to the house by each other's sides. sodapop takes his house keys out of his pockets and unlocks the door.
lacy and sodapop were chatting and giggling on their way in until lacy lets out a terrifying scream, sodapop pushes her back but then sees two-bit standing in the middle of the pitch black living room.
"two, why aren't you at your own house?" sodapop questions him.
"i forgot what time it was?" two-bit replies.
ponyboy comes from the hallway and turns on the living room lights, he just stares at everyone with a confused expression.
"pony, you still need help with packing?" lacy breaks the silence.
"oh yeah, i just need help with remembering where things go." ponyboy explains, "you went to college and i want to know how you do it."
"well you can label your boxes but what i like to do is separate the boxes." lacy suggests, "you should put the boxes of clothes together and the extras can be put on the other side."
ponyboy nods, "thanks..."
lacy rolls her eyes as he left the room.
"lace, what's happening at work?" two-bit starts.
"nothing, why do you want to know?" lacy snorts.
"well i don't know, soda's been telling us that something's been going on and i just wanted to know." two-bit shrugs.
lacy's face turns into fury, "nothing is wrong and i would really like to speak to you outside, soda."
sodapop's eyes close as lacy grabs him by his shirt, he was dragged through the screen door.
"you said something about my boss when i told you to leave it alone?!"
"lacy i didn't say much." sodapop attempted to defend himself.
"yeah but wasn't it obvious that i didn't want you saying anything about what goes on at works?! you just couldn't leave it alone, couldn't you?!" lacy yells, "i tell you to leave my business alone but you don't, you just had to spread to your friends!"
"i just wanted to get opinions on what they thought was wrong." sodapop explains.
"opinions? you just wanted opinions about my problems, who the fuck says that?" she laughs, "i don't need an opinion on what's mine, especially when someone else has to ask for me."
sodapop sighs, "i know, i'm really sorry."
"you know but you still did it anyways, thank!" lacy sarcastically adds, "since you wanted to know so badly, my boss tried to fuck me! see, now you know."
sodapop stood there in disbelief, his eyes said it all when she looked into them. lacy was too pissed to say anything else.
"i don't have time for this shit, bye sodapop."
lacy hops into her car but sodapop didn't follow her this time, he just watched as she pulls out of his driveway and speeds off of the street.
