Louis never thought that he would be one of those people staring at the three dots displayed on the screen of his phone and wait almost anxiously for a text message to pop up, he would have never thought of himself in this current position which maybe should somehow scare him but then again it really doesn't.Louis comes to terms with the fact that he doesn't care, so what he has been staring at his phone and waiting for text massages like a teenager, nobody has the right to comment on that.
Nobody but his arshole friends, whom he very much has decided that he hates, very much so.
"Tomlinson, put that damn thing away." Lea whines as she munches on her salty chips with nutella that she had demanded to eat all day.
Louis looks up the little smile that is peaking over, being long gone as he glares at the pregnant woman, who just glares back.
"You don't get to text your boyfriend all day while I get fat over here, extremely bored out of my mind, truly Louis I'm going insane."
"Stop being dramatic, I told you to watch a movie or something. What else do you want from me?" Louis says as he glances at his phone to see if there is a message. Just as Lea opens her mouth to say something, Louis quickly adds, "And he's not my boyfriend."
"Sure, darling." She says as she takes a bite of he chip munching on it as loudly as she can, keeping on glaring at Louis.
"Okay then, what is he saying."
"Nothing..." Louis says, biting off a smile that was about to bloom on the lads face.
Lea rolls her eyes as she takes her plate and gets up from her way , big couch.
As Louis is thinking of something witty, he can say to Harry he hears a thud and then a plate breaking from the hallway.
That got him on his feet in seconds as worry slowly creeps up on him, "Lea?"
There is no reply, and that just makes him feel more nervous than ever. "L, are you oka -" he stops dead on his track at the sight of his best friend lying on the floor.
Louis can feel his blood run cold as he scrambles down on his knees beside Lea, grabbing her hand as he tries to tell her to wake up, his hands slowly starting to tremble as he reaches for the woman's phone that was lying beside her on the floor.
Everything happens so fast, and as bold as it may sound, that's what it feels like, Louis can barely remember anything after an ambulance arrives, his ears ringing so much that he barely remembers what the doctors told him or anything else at all.
Truly, it's fascinating the way you realize you care about someone so much that you just can't afford letting them go the moment that you have to tell yourself that after all, it is a possibility.
You don't know how much someone means to you until they are about to leave you.
It's scary and intimidating, the feeling of yet another person just slipping off your fingers so easily, everything eventually turning into distinct memories which can only live in you mind alone, the only proof of the love you had.
Louis can never understand how one moment he was happy with the one person his cares most about, and the next, they are in a room fighting off what we humans know as the inevitable thing called 'death'; where exactly does that line get drawn and how did he not notice.
But after all, that's the way life somehow works, with unanswered questions and endless possibilities of 'what ifs' and 'buts'.
It seems that the purpose of life is only mastering the great art of acceptance;
Louis has his head pressed to Niall's shoulder as he stares at the pristine white tiles, his stomach churning from the unbearable anxiety that he has been trying to ignore for an hour straight before the double doors slide open and a doctor comes out with a soft smile.
"How is she?" Is the first thing that Liam says after an hour, Louis scrambling to Sir up straight, ready to stand up.
"Please, follow me." He says and walks down the hall with all three lads right behind him.
Soon enough, they enter an office where everyone takes a seat.
"So, what happened today was an internal bleeding. Breast cancer itself typically does not cause internal bleeding. However, complications such as the spread of cancer to surrounding tissues or organs may lead to issues like bleeding, where emergency surgery might be required, like in this case."
"You're saying that her cancer is getting worse." Niall says, the words heavy coming out of his mouth.
"Mrs. Del Ann hasn't been receiving any medication for her cancer to even try to prevent anything, I'm afraid that at this point, there is no turning back."
After what the doctor had said, silence was louder than anything that could be listed when suddenly Louis spoke up.
"What about the baby...?"
"The baby is good and healthy. Nothing has affected them in any negative way."
"But if Lea..." Liam didn't have to finish the sentence for the man in front of them to understand.
"We would try to save the fetus with a c-section."
Liam nods slowly, reality clshing down on the three lads' shoulders.
"Thank you, doctor..." The brown eyed lad says as he stands up, squeezing Nialls and Louis shoulders so they follow, leaving the white office that seemed to get more and more suffocating with each passing minute.
Louis takes a few steps forward until his knees go weak, causing him to collapse on the floor, a gasp leaving his lips as the first tear falls.
His mates in a flash of a second by his side, the sadness radiating off of every one of them.
"No..." he whispers, realising how easy it is to lose one more person that he loves, how easily they can slip from his grip in such a painful and uninventable way.
