I’d been into The Red Rose a few times for assignments. It was a standard club. There was a stage that normally held the house band and a dance floor. There were tables in the back and a bar in the middle of the room.
Tonight it was set up different though. When I walked in the first thing I noticed was all the round tables set up everywhere. Each one was covered in a white table cloth and had a little candle place in the center. The stage was empty but there were spotlights on it as if the show was about to start. It reminded me of a poetry club.
Eurus hadn’t arrived so I took one of the empty tables toward the middle of the room. I had a good view of the stage ready for whatever was the night’s planned entertainment. A waiter came by to take an order for my drink. I just requested a simple glass of wine. I would need the alcohol.
The waiter came back to my table with a glass of deep red wine and placed it in front of me. I thanked him and took off my jacket. I took the first sip of my beverage and watched as the little place continued to fill up with people.
Then I spotted Eurus looking godly handsome as usual. He found me easily in the crowd and weaved his way over to me. I noticed that he caught the eye of a few mortal girls along the way. I rolled my eyes and prepared myself for what was about to come.
“I told you that I would get you out on a date,” he bragged as he took a seat next to me.
I nodded taking a gulp of wine. “Yes, you did.”
“You look beautiful tonight as always,” Eurus complimented wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.
I couldn’t help but roll my eyes in response. “I don’t know what’s going on tonight.”
Eurus seemed annoyed by the topic change. “There is a karaoke contest tonight.”
“What?” I began to scoot away from him. “I’m not singing!”
“Relax,” he assured. “You have to sign up for it in advance. We are just here for the show.”
I sighed clearly relieved. The waiter stopped by our table again and took Eurus’s order.
Eurus returned his attention to me. “What have you been doing since yesterday?”
“I returned to my friend, Brooke’s house and then we-”
“Yes, very interesting,” Eurus cut me off and my expression showed annoyance. “Well, I’ll bet your interested in what I did being the God of the East Wind in all. I mean, don’t get me wrong dear Peyton, I love to hear all about love but come on; you can’t honestly think that your job is more impressive than my own?”
I sighed and let him drone on about himself and how great the wind was in China because it was blowing east there and blah, blah, blah. I had my glass refilled while he was talking and never bothered to stop him. It was useless.
He did mention me once. “I was talking to Notus about this and he didn’t believe it. I told him that you were perfect. I mean, you next to me is like the North and South wind coming together.”
I’m sure that was a compliment, but I just didn’t get it. Even when he talked about me, he turned it into something about him. Finally the lights dimmed and a girl walked out on the stage. I thanked whoever I could mentally for forcing Eurus to shut his mouth.
She talked about the rules of the contest and other things that I didn’t care about. Her voice was easier to block out than Eurus in which I was thankful for. I took that time to finish off my second glass of wine. The girl called out a name and a random person from the audience walked on stage. He took the microphone and announced the song that he was singing.
