I couldn’t run out of my house fast enough down to catch Harry’s cab. I don’t know if it was because I was in a hurry or what but time seemed to slow down. When Harry’s cab finally arrived in front of my house, he knew exactly where to go.

Harry also had a huge smile on his face as he drove. I kept my gaze out of the window and tried to think. What the hell was I going to say to him? Oh hey, Eros just screwed me over and it turns out that I love you too? That could work, I suppose.

When we arrived on the Brooklyn streets, I noticed that the sun was going down causing the sky to have a purple tint. I didn’t think it would be that late here. The cab came to a slow stop in front of Nate’s building and I did a ‘tuck and roll’ out of the car yelling ‘thanks’ to Harry.

Inside the building, I took the stairs partly because I was excited to tell Nate everything and partly because I had so much energy that I needed to release quickly. Outside of Nate’s door, I paused taking in a deep breath and combing my hair with my fingers. I don’t know why exactly I was trying to look so good because if Nate loved me then he should take me as I am, right? Oh, screw it! I was still a woman who cared about her appearance.

I knocked on the door anxious for what was about to come. Then I was surprised when there was no response on the other side of the door. I tried not to panic as I knocked again slightly faster but still no reply came. I suddenly went into full panic mood. What if he was ignoring me? What if something bad happened to him?

Before I could register it in my mind, my hand had turned the doorknob and pushed the door open. I was surprised to find it unlocked but I didn’t dwell on that much. The apartment was dark since the curtains were drawn and the sun was going down. I flipped the first light switch I could find then search the house.

“Nate?” I called out stepping into the empty living room. The only reply I got was the clipping sounds of claws on hardwood floors as Pyro joined me. He wagged his big bushy tail and I patted his head once before I went to search the rest of the house. The bathroom: empty. The guest room: empty. His bedroom: empty.

Every room in the house was empty which led me to ask: where the hell was he? The more pressing question on my mind though was: was he safe?

I turned on a few more lights in the living room and took off my jacket. I suppose I would have to wait for him since I really had no other option. Pyro hopped up on the loveseat and quickly fell asleep while I sat on the couch trying to keep myself calm.

How long was he going to take? What was he doing anyway? God, I was panicking and I needed to calm down. I got up from the couch unable to stay sitting still for a long period of time.

I walked over to the window and pushed back the curtains only to see the sky darkening. I sighed wondering what he could be doing at this time of night. I didn’t even want to glance at the clock knowing how time was not going to be on my side.

I looked around the room and noticed the phone. An idea popped into my head as I traveled into the kitchen to look for a phone book. That occupied my time for a good while as I searched through all the cabinets before I located the book. I flipped through it as I walked back over to the phone.

I quickly located Brooke’s number and dialed so fast that I made an error and called the wrong number. After apologizing to the person I called, I fixed my mistake and listened to the dial tone.

With each rang, my heart seem to pound harder in my chest as I waited for her to answer. Finally on the fourth ring, I heard the click and Brooke answer with a ‘hello’.

“Hey,” I greeted awkwardly. “It’s Peyton.”

“Peyton?” Brooke asked surprised. “But this is Nate’s number?”
