Chapter 26: Amy's POV: I Want You
"Throw a pot noodle on the floor!" I yelled.
"What?" Caleb asked.
"You heard me!"
"Amy, I got the blankets you asked for!" Jake grinned, throwing them onto the couch messily.
"Ticarra is at Gran's, yeah? Make sure of that. Somebody double-check she's not upstairs." I ordered, as Leila bolted up the steps, Zac following hand-in-hand.
"No funny business!" Tyler called after them, mockingly.
"Shove some bowls or something into the dishwasher!"
"Done?"
"Done."
"There's a car pulling up..."
"Somebody turn the TV on!"
"Ticarra's not here."
"Thank God."
"Everyone in the living room- go, go, go!"
As we heard footsteps nearing towards the door, all six of us dived onto the sofa into a huge heap of human bodies, Jake's foot basically sticking in my ear.
What joys.
The key twisted in the lock, mumbling voices grew clearer, the sound of the door pushing away from it's frame... Mum was home! My heart thudded gently, as my gaze shot around the room inspecting it to a perfect degree. It couldn't be tidy, God no, but mess was't the way to go either. It had to look average- a small amount of clutter somewhere, a few pots or pans on the kitchen sides; it had to look like somebody had actually been living there. Neither my mum or Jake's knew about the incident, and Gran agreed that she'd seen enough police officers to last her a lifetime with my father's nasty habit, so she decided to do her best to keep her daughter out of it.
"Hey guys!" Mum welcomed perfectly in time with Lola Hunter, both barging into the living room, looking absolutely gorgeous.
My mother's porcelain skin had transformed to a healthy, glowing olive colour and her hair was lighter, as it bounced lively across her shoulders. As for Lola? She looked like a Brazilian supermodel for Christ's sake! Looking more similar to Jake than ever, her complexion was reflecting rays of utter radiance across the room. Dammit, they looked like walking photoshop, whereas I looked like a three month old pint of milk.
Why did I allow her to go abroad without me?
Easy, Amy, because there's an invisible rope attaching you to Jake Hunter.
"You look amazing, both of you!" I beamed, as Jake and I embraced our mothers.
"It' so nice to see the two of you again." Lola grinned.
"I'd say we were worried sick, but we were too busy soaking up foreign sunshine." My mum chuckled, as I rolled my eyes.
The hug suddenly came to an end, as my mum scanned across the house. My breathing was unstable and I was looking at Jake desperately for help to distract her, as I picked at all of the flaws in the house that could reveal our secret. He sighed, caressing his hair, but nodding.
"Y'know Miss Dakin? While you were gone, I totally whooped your daughter at a bake-off." He smirked, smugly.
That was not even funny.
