A/N: So this chapter is pretty short, and pretty terrible, but don't hesitate to read, vote, and comment still!
Amelia's POV: Chapter 42: For You
"Are you sure you're alright going to school today?" Jake asked me for the hundredth time, poking his pale green face through his window frame.
"Jake!" I scolded. "Yes, I'm absolutely fine by myself. I know I had a rough day yesterday, but I can handle it."
He pouted at my response.
"Plus, you're ill and you are going to rest. I'll grab a lift off of one of the boys. They have the car, so I'm all set."
"I know but-"
"Stop it! I did have a life before you moved, ya' know? It wasn't all that miserable." I protested, walking over to across from where he was slumped pathetically.
I survived the rest of the school day yesterday- Jake was right when he said he'd cleared the air for me. Of course, it was inevitable that the back corner of gossipers shared their undoubtedly cruel opinion of me when I stepped into my last two classrooms, but I brushed it off, as it could've been far worse. All in all, I was fine- a little shaken up, don't get me wrong- but, yeah... fine.
However, poor Jake didn't get so lucky; he was the one put to suffer, but not for the torment and abuse you'd probably expect. Out of nowhere, he just started to shiver uncontrollably and puke up a couple of times, once we'd got home from school. Mans' flu or something like that, but I disagree. He denies it, but I reckon it was from the anxiety and stress of the day that catapulted him into the gross state of constant vomiting and freezing.
Who knew it? Jake Hunter could actually look repelling.
Therefore, he decided it was probably for the best if he took the day off of school and made his recovery. I'd have loved to stay off of school and make a fuss over him like he did for me a while ago, but there were a couple of problems: Firstly, my mum was at home for all of today, and she'd make me go to school. Second, after yesterday's episode, we'd look like complete milksops if we bailed on school. And finally, that's entirely, stereotypically and disgustingly cringe-worthy. We may both officially be in love with one another, but that isn't to say I'm already developing into a stay-at-home wife with a big dog, three kids and a four bedroom detached house in the suburbs of Denver, USA.
"Okay fine." Jake sighed with a scratch in his voice, clearly giving up on his argument for me to stay and babysit him. "Let me call Zac, and see if he'll take on charity case, over here."
I rolled my eyes at the fact that he was sick, yet still had the energy to tease and taunt me. There was no hope with him.
"Why Zac, anyway?" I questioned, flopping down onto my bed.
"Because he's my favourite." He answered bluntly, dialling into his mobile. I internally giggled, but just shrugged as if to say 'fair enough'. Jake pulled his phone to the side of his head after a couple of rings. "Yo', Zac. I'm going to need a favour. Because, I'm sick. This morning. What, since when? Dude you suck. Ugh it's fine, don't worry man. Love you too. Bye."
"Love you?" I asked, mockingly.
"What?" He laughed. "Are you scared I've been throwing that term around?"
Nonchalantly, I shook my head.
"Right, Zac apparently is taking extra algebra boosters early on every Tuesday morning, so we'll try Caleb."
Some good Jake's best friends were! He allowed his phone call to go through to voicemail three times, before deciding that Caleb wasn't going to get me to school. Why couldn't my mother take me? Well, my punishment for being sent to jail was still incomplete, so the 'taxi of mum' was no longer a privilege accessible to me.
